Got busted :-(

Last night was a rainy night, I was driving at belt pkwy, a dude was doing 45mph at left lane and I was following him, for sure I lose my patient and floored car to pass him.
Then nightmare happened, a cop flashed me and pull me over. "sir, you were doing 75 at 50"
God, over 25mph brings me a $500 ticket at total plus 6 points.
Too bad!

OUCH! Are you sure he had a firm clock on you at 75+ or was that estimated by following you? If not a firm reading, maybe you could plea it down to something more reasonable if you go to court and play lets-make-a-deal with the DA. I don't know how these things go in New York.

I am not sure he was estimated by mind or not, I am gonna find a attorney anyway, hope I can reduce some points at least.

Do you have the option of taking an online "defensive driving course" in NY? I've done that twice for speeding tickets in Florida. Doesn't make the ticket go away but it resets the points to zero. Only allowed once a year and I'm not sure that as many as 6 points could be wiped out.

Exactly why I keep my traffic lawyer's number handy -- and I am a lawyer. In Florida, we're lucky. There are a number of "ticket clinics" that will take care of everything for around $100. I've probably used my guy a dozen times, and have never even met him.

I took the course long time ago to reduce insurance price, and I heard about it will give me 4 extra points at total, but will not reduce points that I have.
I was always thinking this course will reduce 4 points, anybody in NY knows the truth?

There are a lot of ticket clinics here too, but they charge around $300 and usually can only wipe out 2 points.
The governor here wants no accident, the speed limit in city will reduce to 25mph and most of highways will be 50mph.....ggggzeeee

Too late now but...

After a friendly greeting and all the steps, if the officer claims by radar, ask to see the speed. If by pacing, ask when his speedometer was calibrated.

If I'm not mistaken, radar/laser detectors are illegal in NYC.

You can probably negotiate with the prosecutor and LEO to pay higher fine but no points.

Good plan. The attorney may cost you more than the ticket but will probably be able to reduce both the points (which would be what you really want) and perhaps the fine. It is what these guys do every day, they know the system and they are pretty good at it. If it's any consolation, we all feel your pain. Best of luck!

Radar/laser dectors are legal in NY. Radar jammers are not. Laser jammers are definately frowned upon (had a NYC HW cop thoroughly check the front of my car when stopped for doing 70 in a 50).

To the OP, sounds like you will be pleaing in NYC traffic court. Not sure how that will work since DeBlasio took office with his anti-speeding kick. On the Island, most ADAs are willing to plea down provided you can pay on the spot.

Thanks for everyone's reply, I heard about people can pay for the points in long island, this is way better than my situation.
I am still searching a good attorney that can fight for me to wipe off some points.
By the way, i was lucky that i didn't even drive my Porsche that day, just a corolla, or it won't be only 25mph more.
