06 C2S introduction

After months of searching I finally landed a clean example. Although its on the higher side on the clock it was well taken care of and my plans is to track/weekend cruise the vehicle.

2006 Carrera S 6sp
78k miles
Guards Red/ Black leather
Water pump recently done

I had a couple questions as I am fairly new to Porsche. I noticed

-Electric Fan up front seems to be on quite a lot. Turns on when I cold start in the morning. Seems to be on trying to intake air?

-Determining clutch life by feel and it does not slip however the pedal has a small vibration/spongy midway while depressing. Going with experience and searching this forum, it might be a master/slave cylinder. Can anyone confirm?

-When cold 4th gear feels like it slightly rubs gear if shifting above 3k. When Warm there is no issue at all. Might need to drain and refill tranny fluid. What fluid is used?

I am going in for an inspection soon to make sure I have the upgraded IMS. I have been reading 05's are more prone then 06 but just came across a 06 ims thread. What's your experience?

Thanks a lot guys. A couple pictures below

Just have all your issues sorted out at a mechanics unless you have solid proof what the issue is it's hard to diagnose it. The fans coming on could be a sensor issue.

You also won't be able to upgrade the IMS as yours is an 06. Just change the oil every 5000kms and inspect the filter when doing so.

I am looking at a 05 and a 06 same mileage. Both are technically sound at this point, but worried about the ims issue. Sorta seems to me that if the issue was going to happen it would have by now, due to the mileage.

Forum says change oil every 5k, using good oil and things are somewhat hopefully prevented. If it happens ???? it is a engine repair correct??? Decent to large money right??

Also, only appears the 06's might have had one issue with ims and that was posted on here. But after the vin numbers of 05' the large bearing went in and the IMS issue is no more correct?? Trying to figure this out, and honestly this might have scared me off a pristine 05 S model. Now maybe a 06. This might help the OP also so thought I would ask.

If its an 05 it should have a serviceable IMS, I don't know the cost of the LN engineering upgrade. Builds from at least August 2005 have non serviceable IMS, but they are larger and have a greater speed and load rating, less than 1% failure rate.

The Fan will turn off for 20-30 seconds and will start back up again. I drove it again last night which was one of the cooler nights in sf and when I pulled it in to the garage and observed the fan coming on and off. Might be normal?

Good luck. My only advice is to stop reading anything about IMS issues. It will make you crazy. I've been through catastrophic engine failure that was not IMS-related. Without a doubt, it sucked. It's a machine. Anything can happen. Just take good care of it to minimize your risk, and maximize your fun. Drive it like you stole it.
