997 vs. 991
I have been very happy with my 2007 911, and I am now ready for a move up to something newer. I don't want to buy new and I don't want a Turbo.
I am currently considering the following and am wondering what people think in terms of resale down the road, cost of ownership, and best value:
- 2012 911 S (991 body)
- 2012 911 GTS (997)
- 2013 911 4S - 991 wide body, but >$10K more expensive than options above
How much is the new 991 body worth?
Are there enough improvements with the new 991 to warrant a move up to 991?
Are there problems with 1st year 991?
I love the way the new 991 looks, but I really like the wide body style of the GTS or 4S. I would like to stick to a price point of $80K or low $80's, and I know I cannot get a 2013 4S for that price.
They're all great options......
Thanks. (by the way I posted in 991 section too - want to see difference between answers here and there)

Personally, I'm a 997 fan. I have a 2012 4S cab, and I love it. (PDK) I have driven many 991s and frankly, they are awesome cars. But they are a lot different , in many ways.
The PDK on a 991 is smooth as silk, my 997 a little quirky. The electronic steering(991) , I like it. The 991 is a totally different feel.
You can't lose with the three cars that you picked, drive them and see which "feel" you like best. Take your time, and then enjoy.

That's going to be a hard question to answer. Those are all great cars. If you want a wide body then rule out the 991 S. Which style do YOU like better? Which one drives better to YOU? That's what it's all about. As far as resale, it's going to be dependent on color combo and options more then anything. Buy what appeals to you.

I would wait another year for a 991, to let all the bugs get identified and work started to resolve them. However a late 997 will have all the bugs id'd and besides, I like to look of the 997 better than the 991.

I'm with Sandwedge. Not much to admire on the 991 backside. 997 though, now that's a nice booty.

I just got back from a week in Europe with a 991 C4S cabriolet. It was fantastic. The sport exhaust option in the 991 transforms the car from docile to cup car! The PDK in the 991 is also fantastic. Don't get me wrong, I love my 997, but you really have to drive the 991 and decide for yourself. FWIW, I had the 991 up to 160 mph on the Autobahn and it was wonderful. Great car...

Seriously? Granted, the picture below has a 997 WB vs. a 991 NB but to my eyes it's amazing how they managed to neutralize so many of the sexy 997 curves of the rear end on the 991. Applies to the 4S version as well. Especially since the width of the cars haven't changed. Of all the 991's I've seen so far I think the GT3 is the best looking package, even though I'm not a fan of big wings. Maybe the 991 needs a wing on the back end to break up the semi station wagon look.

Load of crap! Have you driven one? I think this is probably the most ignorant statement from anybody, especially car journalist. 99.9% of people out there will not be able to tell. It's precise and crisp, just asked Chris Harris.
I currently have a 997, spend a lot of money on it to make it the way I wanted. The new 991 isn't faster than my 997, ones w/o a body kit isn't as good looking. . It's not worth losing a lot of money to upgrade to a 991 unless it's a GT3. But if I was in the market today. The 991 is my choice, it's newer, it's more comfortable, the interior is more modern, has more gadgets. It rides stiffer and more sporty, yes even with the electric steering, I do not need to feel every pebble on the road. The 997 will continue to depreciate unless it's GT3, the 991 will as well but not as much. Newer is almost always better IMO.

Here's an apple to apple comparison
