Finally installed wheel spacers on my 997.2!

Hi guys,

I've been considering wheel spacers since I purchased my car 3 months ago. I have a 997.2 C2S w/sports suspension. I decided to go with the 7mm/15mm spacer setup. I went with H&R 7mm spacers for the front and ECS 15 mm spacers in the rear. The spacers did a great job filling out the wheel wells. I'd say 15mm spacers in the rear are perfect for a NB with 19" Carrera S II wheels. However, the front wheels aren't as flush as the rear wheels. I probably could have gotten away with 10mm spacers up front. Here are some pictures (sorry, they're not the best).

Not that I know of. I think it's just the lighting in the picture. My rear bumper has some small scratches and the edges near the wheel well are pretty blasted and in line with the mileage of the car.

What is the purpose? Your wheels now stick outside the fenders. Not good in the rain.

You make no sense. My wheels don't stick past the fenders and even if they did, what does that have to do with the rain?

Spacers can be a blessing and a curse.. If done right they can look great and add better handling and turn in bite. If over done it can change the handling of the car, offset the alignment camber, shorten tire wear life and add in some not so nice vibrations.

In my experience adding anything more then 5mm to the fronts will require a spacer that has an extended hub design or else you will introduce vibrations at higher speeds and feel it in the steering wheel. 7mm spacers are cutting it close and may add vibrations if they have no exentded hub. The problem is that there is so little hub left after the spacer is put on that the wheels center hub opening has very little meat to slide on to and center properly. Being off just a hair will, even with proper torque tightening of bolts, will introduce some vibrations. Brey-Krause makes great spacers 7mm and 11mm with these types of extended hubs. They are pricey, but the idea is correct, so you may be able to find other manufacturers for less with similar extended hubs.

Your car looks lowered with aftermarket springs so the spacer do make it look nicer! Enjoy!

Hey qikqbn, my car actually PASM sports suspension, so it's 10mm lower than regular C2S. I was initially concerned with vibration based on what I read on the forums. However, the H&R's have been fine up front--no vibration. I did, however, take precautions. About 1/2" of the hub still remains with the 7mm spacer. This is enough to set the wheel. Then using ECS, OEM-type, extended bolts, I tightened them in a cross pattern with the wheel still in the air to help center the wheel. So far so good!

Great to hear!! Sport suspension looks good! You mentioned in a previous post you might want the fronts pushed out even further... so that is why I mentioned the hub centric spacers. If you have no vibrations now then that is great news. If you decide to push them out further.. then the 11mm brey-krause style spacer is a good choice and might be the safest way to go to avoid any issues with vibrations. 2 or 3 Wheel stud alignment/mounting tools work great too when putting those wheels back on.

I have 15mm spacers front and rear. I did the rears first, a couple of weeks ago. 15mm was an easy decision. After much deliberation, and some great feedback on this forum, I added 15mm's to the front this weekend. Personally, I think the look is great. I still haven't figured out why Porsche recommends 7mm in the front.

From the pic it looks nice and flush to the fenders... don't be surprised to have much better bite and handling with the wider front track. One of the key areas the 991 improved handling over the 997 with was widening the front track. So it should make a nice and noticeable difference now with 30 mm wider front track. Keep us posted on how she feels through the canyons

I know that with the suspension set-up on my car the wider track was part of the equation and the handling is insanely good!
