FISTER exhaust on 997.1 S/4S models - Your impressions please
Folks,
I am pretty much sold on the FISTER D modification as I need to upgrade my mufflers. My understanding is that for non-S models, the Fister D modification gives you a great improvement on the noise and much more alert behavior.
Now for S models (S and 4S), I understand that the Fister modification eliminates the PSE feature (Vacuum valve with flaps).
I would like to hear/read from members of S models who have gone through that route and what they think about the loss of the PSE option. Also, what have you done with the vacuum lines going to the actuators? Have you simply plug the end of the lines? have you installed a plug on the electric valves controlling the PSE system?
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

To be quite honest, I've never heard of someone that has PSE switching to a Fister D exhaust....I have the Fister D Titanium exhaust and love it. I went with Fister because I didn't want to spend $3500-$4000 for the PSE.
The PSE gives you the best of both worlds...quiet and agressive. Fister changes the whole sound but doesn't sound as agressive as the PSE with the flaps open. But in the end, I like the Fister for the price and simple install.
I guess if you have PSE and swap to Fister, then yes, the electrical lines to the flaps should be properly electrically terminated.

Well, he beat me to it (i.e., Fister is a cheap alternative to having a PSE and not a replacement).
FYI, I have a 4S with no PSE. I did my own and I really like the change in the sound.

I had the PSE on my 4s and loved the sound, but wanted it louder. I added the fabspeed xpipe and long tube headers and it was amazing. Shoot me your email and I can send you some sound clips/videos. With that said, I'm currently trying to get my turbo to sound like my 4s. I just added the Europipe and it sounds good, just not as loud as I'd like it. The journey continues.

Folks,
My goal is not to sound louder. It is simply to find a decent alternative to my PSE mufflers which are rattling like crazy. Replacing these mufflers will cost close to $2500 (Porsche parts) and will not sound better than what I had before (rattling aside).
If the Fister is right between the regular exhaust and the PSE activated exhaust, then it may be the perfect solution for my daily driver car.

Gotcha. From what I've heard, the fister will sound the same as your PSE, but will be always in the "on" position. Makes sense price wise if you prefer the volume/sound of the PSE.

If your looking to replace a defective PSE & not fork out $2000 then that makes sense, go with FISTER D 100%

I would agree that if you want to avoid the $2K for the PSE fix, then the $500 or so for the Fister sport mufflers is an easy decision.
Although it was stated above that the Fisters sound like the PSE but always on.....only half is true. The Fister's are always on, but do not sound like the PSE's....they are less agressive.
Still, a great buy and more reliable than the PSE system.

I just saw a thread where a member opened up his PSE can, and welded it back together after fixing the internal rattle with a simple tack weld. Took him a few hours to do one can.
One thing to consider if going gundo/Fister with Darin, is he wants a core for his in stock/on shelf cans.
If it were me, I would much rather fix what I had by opening/welding, then have a ceramic coating applied to reduce engine bay heat and help cover up the weld marks....(even though they will not be visible as the larger side of your cans is facing outward to inside of your rear bumper.)
That way, you still retain this sought after option down the road.

Yves, the PSE and Fister sound almost the same. My friend had PSE on his car and always had it on since he unplugged something. I went with the Fister because there was no point buying a $2500 system with the on/off option only to have it always on. Another friend of mine had a 2006 C2 (3.4L) with a 2" Gundo and it didn't sound as good as mine...stick with Fister. I eventually added the AWE 200 cell cats and X51 headers.
