GTS owners? Buyers remorse?

Looking at a new GTS or waiting for the 991.2 refresh in '16. I remember looking at the "new" 991 in 2011 at Rennsport Reunion IV and thinking how good it looked. You just know they will showcase the 991.2 at Laguna Seca in October. The new 991.1 GTS is a great looking car and has SO much to offer, but I know the 991.2 is going to be a better car in a lot of ways. Was there ever a time when you wished you had waited for a 991 or are you still happy with your 997 GTS?

comparing the transition from 997 to 991 is much different to comparing a mid cycle refresh...

what makes you think 991.2 is going to be that much different than 991.1? (sorry I don't spend that much time in 991 country)

imo, porsche should have waited for 991.2 to come out with the GTS like they did with the 997 cycle. the 991.1 has the 50th already. That's the car I'd consider if looking at a 991

As already stated, 997.2 to 991 was a full generation jump - the 991.2 is not going to be drastically different.

With no solid concrete timetable for the 991.2 - if you don't necessarily need to make the jump into a new car, I'd continue to hold out. Although I do feel like the 991 GTS is very impressive and for the right person will fit a perfect need. There is always going to be something better around the corner, this is Porsche we are talking about haha.

I have a 2011 GTS with aerokit. I got it two weeks ago. I have had some fun cars over the years, but they all pale in comparison to this car. The car is ridiculously fun to drive, and is sick to look at. I have people follow me to my parking spot (in distant corner of the lot) just to tell me how much they like the car. If you have had a bad day, you can always jump in the car for a 10 minute spirited drive and your day is forgotten.

The technology that is built in to this car with the Sport Mode and Sport Mode Plus is over the top. I have only scratched the surface of learning how to really drive the car.

Best of all - it's actually practical and can be driven frequently with confidence of reliability.

I know that it comes down to personal preference - but I like the 997 myself. The GTS 997 wide body is tough to beat.

I LOVE this car. I hope and plan to have it for years. I honestly cannot tell you another car I would rather have. I have never had that happen before.

This car is bad ***.

I waited for the 991 and bought my 997 GTS after I saw the 991. No regrets at all.

In the same boat as the OP. I just hope the .2 will not be FI with more HP sauce.

I understand the mid cycle refresh point. BUT, for a GTS to come out at mid cycle, I figure the change coming has to be significant. Just speculation. Sure looks like Porsche is going with a smaller displacement turbo charged engine in '16. That's a big change, but could be good. If that is the case, the decision is for me is tough. Thus my question to GTS owners in the 997 forum.

I've had my 2012 GTS for 3.5 years and have absolutely no regrets on not waiting and getting a 991. This is the longest I have ever kept a car. I have driven numerous 991's, and while they are very good cars, they just haven't excited me enough to buy one.

I agree with the OP that the 991.2 or 992, whatever it is going to be called is likely going to be a major revision. Who knows whether it will be better, or more down the road of a GT car and less sports car.

No regrets/remorse here. Could have bought a 991 when I bought this. Have not looked back.

No regrets whatsoever!! I have a 2011 GTS with the aerokit as well. I think if I upgrade or get a new 911 it will be at the end of the 991.2 in 3 years or so. I would lean towards a GT3 though.

There has been chatter on the 991 Boards about the 991.2 indeed being FI. In fact, although I can't remember the post (Rennlist) that linked an interview with one of the PAG head honchos, he all but directly stated that the 991.2 would be FI - well, actually I think he said "future models" so it is my assumption that he meant the 991.2. If you think about it, this makes sense that the 991.1 GTS is being released now (instead of at the end of the 991.2 production run) because it may be the last NA non-GT 911. (In the interview mentioned above, it was also tacitly suggested that the GT models would remain NA.) So, the 991.2 may in fact be quite different (whether "better" I wouldn't touch) and the question the OP may want to consider is NA in the 991.1 or FI in the 991.2.

As for me, I chose the 997.2 GTS. I simply liked the looks better than the 991 and, silly as this may sound, could not feel the same comfort level dropping a similar amount of money on the 991 that just did not speak to me the same way. It was also easier to order a PTS GTS and have a little negotiating wiggle room than order a 991 several months later and have little to none because it was the new, new thing. As others have stated, I like my GTS so much (in combination with I have no desire for FI) that it may be the last 911 I buy (although always on the lookout for a nice 964/RS America just to have for fun).

Congrats on your GTS. Will you be taking your car to Cars and Coffee this Saturday in Carlsbad? Would love to see it there. PCA San Diego will have a big turn out at this time of the month.
