997.1 PCM 2.1 Bose bypass questions / wiring schematic
hey guys,
Recently picked up a 2006 C2S cab and am looking to retrofit the head unit and will be bypassing the bose amp rather than using a navtv most hur adapter. I have already purchased the head unit, euro motorspeed kit, but am stuck on the amp. I am planning on a JL audio XD600/6, but am struggling with how I will wire it in.
I understand that the subs in the doors are 1 ohm, so how do most utilize the stock bose speakers? I do not want to run the left and right in series- add a 1ohm resistor?
In general, is there only one pair of wires going into the door and then split between the two speakers? If so, is there a passive crossover or filter on the speakers?
My thoughts are that i would amp the subs in the door (ch1/2) the mids in the door (3/4) and the tweeters on the dash (5/6), disregard the center speaker, and run the rears as fills of off the head unit.
Does anyone have a wiring schematic for the bose system to help achieve this? What are your thoughts overall, and what do you guys recommend? If the suggestion is to swap out the speakers in the door, what do you recommend as a direct drop in?
Thanks for the help!!

When I had my system upgraded in my 996 C4S, I replaced the head unit, amp and speakers. Most audiophiles feel that the speakers are the weakest link in the system in terms of sound quality, and I agree with that feeling. In my case, I had a 4-channel amp installed that ran the entire system. I had Focal speakers installed in the doors and also had a custom subwoofer box installed behind the rear seats and carpeted so it was totally concealed.
I can't help you with the proper way to use the Bose speakers in the door. My recommendation is to replace them.

thanks for the feedback. through further reading, i found that the tweeter and door mid are on the same channel, and the door sub is separate. I am going to just swap out the door subs to avoid the 1ohm issue.
