PCM Display - delay when cold

I noticed that my PCM display wouldn't come till after a few minutes. The radio still works but no display till after about 10 minutes.

I had this issue like twice 4 years ago. Now, I think due to very cold temps, it's occuring again.

Anyone experienced this?

I wish it would die so I can justify a head unit upgrade.

LCD displays and extreme cold are generally bad combinations.

I wonder if Perhaps I should not have taken out the plastic clear cover. I took it off a few years back to cool off the LCD in the summer.

This issue happened once last week and this morning.

Anyone else use their car around 4:30 am? Are you experiencing this intermittent annoyance?

Cold in Cali? I've run the car in subzero temps this winter here in NY. Can't say I've seen the issue you describe.

The "liquid" is slow to react when cold. It is liquid after all and the viscosity changes just like your oil.
Most car stereo displays are "rated" to perform as normal from temperature ranges of -15 to +120.

Mine does exactly what you are describing. Has happened maybe 8 times this past year. Couldn't figure it out either. Seems to happen early in the morning if I haven't driven it in a week or so. Not really that cold in Florida and the car is in a garage. I'm glad you posted, I now know it is not unique to mine.

my issue never recurred again. Perhaps it wil happen again in a few years.

wmriceman, is yours a daily driver also? Mine is. Do you also turn off your radio? Mine is always on whenever I turn on the engine. I never turn it off before shutting down the engine.

Not a daily driver but around 100 miles a week. I always turn off the radio before shutting down the engine. Seems like it may be waking up after the car has not been used for several days. 2 minute delay at most and happens very infrequently. I don't believe mine occurs due to cold; Florida weather and stays in a garage. I also don't feel it is low voltage due to a weak battery after sitting for several days because I have a trickle charger attached.
