Glasgo is infamous around these parts
997.1 to 997.2 conversion

Hi,

Just picked up an 05 997.1 c2s. I would like to update the rear bumper and tail lights to 997.2 gt3 look and possibly do a ducktail decklid. I've done some research into vendors as far as who produces the body panels needed (misha, precision, prior, etc.) but am curious who you guys like best in terms of fitment and value for money. I am on the fence on doing the gt3 style rear bumper with dual outlets or the single center outlet, I am sure you guys will be able to lay out the pros and cons for both solutions.

Also, what are most of the 997 guys doing In terms of taillights; aftermarket led solutions or OEM?

Regards,
Chris

Why would you want to go through all the hassle just to change the LED lights? If you want to change the rear bumper to GT3 style, try GT3TEK rear bumper and add Dectane tail light and make the car to your personal taste. Also, do a search on Misha and decided for yourself.

I am somewhat confused. Wouldn't 997.2 bumpers accommodate the Porsche LED's? And the aftermarkets are only for 997.1 coutouts, correct?

It sucks getting old.

I got the Prior Design full kit, converted to .2 and installed the ducktail. Not cheap but I really like the look a lot.

If you do it, I like the dual exhaust coming out the center. Good luck and be patient and research all of the kits first- like you are doing. That will get you the best result with the least hassle.

Prior Design is the best! Let us know if you need any information on their kit!

I don't think that an OE GT3 rear bumper cover would fit. I know a guy who did that very thing to his 997 C4S, but that's a wide body car. I don't think the fit would he correct on a C2S.

Put aftermarket DEPO LED lights on your current bumper and call it a day. There isn't a huge difference between the 2 bumpers unless you go GT3 style.

have to disagree there, the .2's look more modern and just cleaner in general.

Agree the front is a nice upgrade but the OP was talking of replacing his rear bumper for a 997.2 which amounts to a nip in the corner of the taillight and LED's. Honestly I would not even swap my 997.1 front end unless it was for a gt3 front end,

I believe OP said "997.2 gt3", which is significantly different than a standard 997.1 or 997.2, IMO.

- if the purpose is to update just the taillights, I would just go for DEPO light and keep it .1
- but if the purpose is to update to GT3 style bumpers, then I would go all the way and switch to .2 OEM taillights at the same time.

My bad. You are correct. In that case I would still do a 997.1 GT3 rear and keep your current lights and save some money.
