bad oil at 20,000 miles
Can anyone give a little insight to Porsches recommedation of changing the oil at 20,000 miles. I'm someone who is used to changing the oil every 3,000.
Should the first oil change be sooner thinking break-in period and all, maybe after 2,000 miles?

Many do change it after break in. I'd change the oil around every 10k to 15k. It also depends on how often you drive. You should change it about once a year and most of us don't put 20k mi each yr anyways.

When I got my 997, my dealer said that I really did not need to change the oil before 20k; but that some people do. The synthetic oil is the reason why it is not earlier. I don't think Porsche would recommend 20k if sooner was better, but a lot of us are trained to change every 3k.

Personally i think that 20k for an oil service interval is a bit much..
Your Porsche is an investment...... In order to protect it, I would say that 5k is a good interval.... If you are tracking the car I would change engine oil before the trackweekend.
Just my .02..............

fact...run it at 20,000 mile intervals and you will see the same oil coking and degradation related problems that plagued vw and audi engines, both turbo and n/a engines...
