Ln engineering spin on oil filter question

Other than convenience, what's the advantage of the adapter over paper cartridge filter?

Thanks

There have been talks about the Porsche filter being less efficient compared to the aftermarket metal-bodied filters. I tend to agree with this; however, I do find it very comforting seeing the factory paper filter as it will tell me what's going on inside the engine.

Obviously, one can always open up the metal filters to check. Much like a can opener, is there an oil opener?

No bypass to fail, better filter options, can add magnets to exterior, easier to change. That said I enjoy cutting my stock filter open each time for a peek.

I haven't seen scientific data comparing the factory paper against the aftermarket metal oil filters for me to determine if it's worth the upgrade.

Much like above, it comforts me cutting up the paper and seeing "no debris".

For now, I will sit in the corner. Hopefully, this does not take the form of "K&N filter vs paper filter."

I hate the idea of throwing away all those metal filters over time; it's so wasteful. I think it's great that OEM's are switching over to paper cartridges in most cars nowadays.

Sorry, sometimes the closet tree-hugger in me comes out... I'll tell him to shut up from now on!

No need to shut up.

I share your view.

I also have noticed that some shops actually puncture those metal filters to drain out the leftover oil inside before disposal. I say great idea for Mother Earth

With that said, having the retrofit kit looks so cool

I have never seen any data versus the 2 filters. One thing to remember, the factory could have used any filter they wanted to use for there program.
Example, Having many bmw's, they all had paper cartridges and had many miles on them. If it's not broke, don't fix it. There are so may gimmicks out there today to spend your money on.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure punching holes in metal filters is required by law. I could be wrong; I haven't worked in a shop in a while...

Agreed; the trick is not to cheap out on bargain basement paper filters. No doubt you've seen the pictures of the imploded ones; don't do a lot of good when they're all crumpled up inside the canister!

I own it and like it. Im running rare earth magnets (2) on my Wix metal filter. 100% filtration unlike the OEM setup with the bypass.

Plus that plastic housing is just so cheap looking/feeling...yea, I know, everybody is running these plastic housings.

I picked up one of those metal filter cutting tools, so for you tree huggers....corey and Cab, rest assured ill think of you guys, and be a good boy and pop out the filter element, and recycle the metal....just for you guys.

One of my primary responsibilities is imaging/paperless office. We image invoices, reports, payroll records, financials, etc). Would you believe I still print everything? Tree hugger but also a killer. Lol!

Perhaps when I unload the paper stocks, I can practice what I preach.

Hey Win.... Just buy the damn adaptor...don't be a tight wad! I don't want to hear all this environment talk from you guys...you know damn well, if you could get 50 more HP out of your cars, you'd do it at the expense of mileage, etc.

chuckle...

I almost bought it actually when I ordered my magnetized drain plug. I do enough mother-earth crap (recycling oil, soda cans, battery disposal, etc) that this kit wasn't even about tree hugging. I seriously like checking the paper filters. Plus, i still have about 6 paper filters in inventory.

I also do understand that it is pretty --- but only the grease monkey owner could really appreciate it --- for 5 minutes every 4-5k miles.

Perhaps, when my custom subwoofer box is done, then the budget could focus towards this kit again.
