Can I put just the rear of the 997.2 on jack stands ?
Quick question - I will be doing the 40K service this weekend, actually just the plugs, and I wanted to put just the rear of the 997 on jack stands ? I like the idea of keeping the front tires on the ground. Of course the front would be chocked -
is there any issue of just getting the rear of the car up on jack stands for me to do the work ?

nope just doing plugs. What about that danger of the car rolling forward - I guess the wheel chocks should be enough. I may test it out today for stability, before the weekend. Oil change I have done without lifting the car. I want to avoid all 4 wheels in the air.
Has anyone done this ? All the threads I see have all 4 in the air on jack stands.
And to stem the responses, I know the benefits of JackPoint, but I will use regular stands. Does anyone have pictures of the 997 on just 2 rear jack stands and the front tires on the ground ?

I've worked on many cars including the 997 with the rear lifted and nothing to secure the front wheels...but that's me.
If you don't feel comfortable working under the car without it completely secured, then secure the front
Taking that risk is completely up to you...

What do you mean by secure the front wheels - you mean wheel chocks right ? - or do you mean secure the front wheels by having them on jack stands as well ? I would not dream of not using wheel chocks on the front, if I lift the back.

when I did my plugs, cats, timing belt
I do have jackpoint stands but they aren't any more secure than jackstands. They are just more convenient

Lift the rear, chock the front wheels, if you have extra stands, put them where they could support the car in case the car rolls, and finally, put your rear tires/wheels underneath the car also.
I also use the jacks to act as a backup. . Yeah, I am paranoid with backups on top of backups but you'll never know
Good luck.

Buddahmonk - thanks for the pics ! I notice you did not remove the bumper to remove the side mufflers. I too have a 99.2 - did you find it difficult to do without taking the bumper off ?

As for the 997.2, I am not sure what is involved
No earthquakes in OR. Never felt the need to have backup for backup. when working on my 350z, I purposefully tried to push the car off the rear jack stands without anything securing the front wheels and it did not move. I feel comfortable under the car that way but I can't recommend that to others....
Have fun with the plugs - not fun AT ALL!!!! Whose idea was to put the plugs underneath the engine, with exhaust headers in the way as well as a bunch of brackets....maybe the 997.2 is easier...

And talking about safety, I sometimes disconnect the battery for the just in case. Plus I do have a c4 so not sure if the 2 front wheels would grip if I shorted out the starter.
