Some people find 997 tacky but for most of us 997 owners, this article make perfect sense. Read it and enjoy it my friends

Interesting... Thanks for sharing...
Just wonder, if finances weren't a consideration, how many 997 owners would prefer a 991?
Exterior looks on the 991 may be cooler, especially for the cabrio roof, but I personally am not sold on the interior console. It's nice for a Panamera though...

If finances not a consideration, I would grab a GT2 and a GT3 *manual*, both of which not available in 991 form. But before that I'd hunt down an F40... along with many other cars with unique experiences that are no longer available. A 991 would be pretty low on that list.
Thanks to OP for sharing the article. A lot of its arguments seem subjective, as expected.

My '09 Carrera S was my first new brand new Porsche (previous century 356 driver) and I feel fortunate to have stumbled into the dealership that day "just to look". The increase in size of the 991 and the "universal" Porsche cascading console turn me off from wanting a newer 911. I covet my 6 speed like the neanderthal that I am, I don't need 20" wheels, and I think I already have enough electronic nannies to keep me safe. My bucket list does include a GT3 (some day) but it has to be a manual (hear me grunt like a caveman!!).

Interesting article. However, if you scroll down the page and read the 991 vs. 997 article, you'll find that the author seems to prefer the 991.
I've spent quite a bit of time behind the wheel of a 991 C4S cabriolet, and I think it's a wonderful car. The only thing that I think I would miss if I upgraded my 997 TT to a 991 TT is the manual transmission. I know that PDK shifts better and faster than I do, but I still prefer shifting the gears myself.

It's too early to say how the auto community will regard the 997 over time. Even this article notes the resurgence of the 964 over the 993. I too tried to hunt down a 964, only to find the prices have nearly doubled in the last few years.
We may see people looking for 997.1's as the last naturally aspirated porsche. Will the interior really stand up over another 10 years? Hard to say.
I have no intentions of getting a 991 over my 997 at the moment. That may change as the new Targa's become more accessible.

Guess that s why we got the same car, LOL.
Grunt, grunt!

Money was not an issue and I went with 997TT over 997GT3 and 991C2S. I think 997 has all the right curve of classic 911 with modern flares and just enough electronic to keep the tail in place and not spin out. With wife approval I am thinking of adding a GT4 in the near future if I can have an allocation (doubt it, I am number 5 on my local dealer list).

I assume you meant 991 instead of 997.1. Obviously the 997.2 and the 991 are available as a normally aspirated car.

I'm a minority here, if my car didn't have a GT3RS bodykit and TPC turbo on it, I probably would had traded it in a year or two ago. I've driven the 991 on numerous occasions, the C2, C2S, C4, and C4S, it drives better than our 997. It looks big but it doesn't drive big especially on the track. I too didn't like the interior at first but going from my 981 boxster and into my 997, the interior looks a decade old. Same reason, I never brought a 964/993 when prices were reasonable. I couldn't live with the interior. You spend 90% of your time in the cabin, it should be pleasing to the eyes. The 997 is a great 911, it's price reasonable compared to the air cooled 911's, 991 used car prices is still a bit high. It looks like a 911 unlike the 996. It still turn heads. I'm happy I own one.

It looks nice with all that alcantara and carbon fiber but it still doesn't have a touch screen and you can't play music on your phone.

I just don't want to drop another small fortune on a 991 and ride out another big depreciation hit. Been there and done that too many times already on previous Porsches and Mercedes. Hence I recently bought this '08 with 25,000 miles on it and made the best of it. Just nice to have a sports car of this calibre as a second car.

True enough as it still has its limitations...Such are the sacrifices that I have chosen to live with... The panamera 4S is my other car and definitely feels more up to date.
