Is my clutch going!
My clutch is vibrating when I release the pedal from the floor and feels really soft and mushy! I don't really feel slippage but I am not sure what it should feel like. The car is a 2006 with 49000 miles on it. Any input would be great! Also what will that cost me to do if I need a clutch?

I just changed my clutch on my 2006 Carrera 4S 3 weeks ago... Just for the record... I purchased this car with only 6,300 miles on it, practically new, and I drive my car like a bat out of hell all the time.. 56,000 Glorious miles out of my clutch.
No warning signs until it finally gave up the ghost.. So one morning I drive to work. no problem.. get back in to drive home later... whoa... something does not feel right. I almost think its the slave or master cylinder. Clutch engagement is very spungy and gears are not engaging smoothly as before at all. Reverse gear is almost impossible. I get home and bleed the slave cylinder, messy and pain in the butt, and this does nothing to fix problem. I drive around a few more days, but something is definitely not feeling right...
So here is how my clutch finally gave it's last breath.. There was this bmw M6 driving like a numb nut on the fwy and cut me off. So when traffic opens up I decide to pull up next to him and give it the beans! Just as pull up next to him and my exhaust pipes are next to his ears, I drop it in to third and romp on it.... my clutch slips all the way to redline... boom... just like that.. I could no longer give it more then 30% throttle without slipping the clutch. I was a dead duck in the water... Car still drove to the dealership but clutch was a toasty critter
I went ahead and replaced the clutch and flywheel. http://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/
has decent pricing for oem parts, but you can find them cheaper on ebay... up to you.
I used oem parts.
about $800 for clutch kit
about $900 for flywheel...
I also replaced the slave cyclinder and release lever.. What happened to me is that My mechanic said that a few of the "fingers" on the clutch pressure plate broke and were no longer applying pressure. other times the "springs" on the clutch disc itself break apart and get caught up in the flywheel or you just wear out the clutch material. Either way, he said about 50-60k is about average for a Porsche clutch on a car that is driven aggressively.
Its a 10 hour labor job... so if you are good friends with a independent mechanic then multiply his hourly rate by about 10 for labor costs..
New clutch feels like butter and ready for another 60k glorious miles

Yes , a dealer did the labor. I have a really good relationship with them so I got a nice deal. Still, porsche labor is not cheap even at an independent shop. Figure a low of $1000 labor for a great deal and a high of $1800 labor at your avg stealer/dealers . Then just add the price of parts.
Total bill....
Figure $ 1500-2000 for just clutch
or $2500-3000 for clutch and flywheel

I had my clutch go a few years ago shortly after buying the car. Took it on a trip to the coast with the entire family when it gave out in the mountains. The S cars have a self adjusting clutch so it sometimes it gives no warning. I had it replaced and the out the door cost to me was around $1800.

The typical failure is the pressure plate which tends to tear causing the fingers to only apply pressure on one side. In my mind it's a quality/design failure but that doesn't matter.
In any case do not drive the car because if the clutch is slipping you'll be bucking up for a flywheel as well.

Dealer diagnosed that it is definitely the clutch and is splitting the cost with me since I had the car less than 2 months. I feel that that was a fair end result. The total charge was 2900 and I will pay 1450. Overall, I am happy with the way the dealer took of this, and I have a brand new clutch for a pretty good out of pocket!
