Advice on this 997S
Hi guys, what do you think about this 997 S
2006 997 S
58k miles
clean carfax
exotic non-porsche dealer
passed PPI by reputable Porsche indy mechanic
no accidents, no re-paint
three issues, needs new tires (I know it's gonna hurt) 60k miles service around the corner and ac buttons are faded, will need to touch up
dealer selling for 37k
willing to accept 34,500
thoughts?
Thank you

1. Needs new tires? - not an issue. At least you get to drive it on new tires
2. 60K mile service going to hurt you the most unless you can do most of it yourself. It's not hard to do
3. Has the water pump been replaced?
4. the only issue I see is the tiptronic =)

that car must be a woman driver, look at the A/C buttons, all scuffed up from long fingernails.
To me, it just doesn't feel like a true sports car. I like to be in control of it. Others may disagree but that's just me. Tiptronic, PDK is just another fancy word for automatic. I'll leave that for my sedan if I ever own one.

Big difference between a Tiptronic & a PDK. No torque converter in a PDK, just One clutch controls odd-numbered gears, and the other controls even-numbered gears. As you accelerate, the gearbox lines up the next and previous gears on the clutch that isn’t in use, ready for any eventuality - whether you slow down or continue to accelerate. Then, when a gearchange is needed, it simply switches from one clutch to the other. I myself prefer a manual but the PDK is sweet for an auto!

IDK... seems fairly priced, but again...missing the 3rd pedal...sorry.
front end looks to be resprayed. Wheels are curbed and lobster claws.
Im an IWC guy BTW.... +/- 1 sec/day !

If you cannot drive a stick and want to drive a Porsche, well this is not a bad way to get to that. The last time I drove one of the tip cars though it was years ago and it seemed to have trouble finding the right gear, so it was not that enjoyable for me. Though I am one of the Neanderthals that thinks PDK and all those Paddle shifters are not really manuals either.

Sorry -- I hate to disagree. The TIP is an extremely reliable and less maintenance intensive transmission to support.

Eww, Tiptronic. If you can't operate a clutch for medical reasons, that's understandable, but you're really missing out on the driving experience. If the car were manual it would be selling for a few thousand more.
Otherwise it looks like a fair price and a good buy at $34,500. For decent inexpensive tires, you can get Falken Azenis FK453 for $795 shipped on Discounttiredirect.com. Find a good independent Porsche tech to do the 60k service and to install the tires; you'll save a fortune.
Polish the headlights to get rid of the haze.
Send the HVAC unit to stickynomore to fix the switches; it's $100 plus shipping if you remove and send them just the switches, or $175 if you send them the entire panel and have them disassemble/reassemble it. http://stickynomore.com/
Good luck!

I agree that it is farily priced, and the flaws are easily correctable. But I don't love Stone Grey (though I admit it looks better here in full leather...) and the supple leather would be a total deal breaker for me.

Same here. Supple leather, tiptronic and stone gray would be deal breakers for me. But it is priced pretty fair.
