Dear Porsche, it's not you, it's me.

Dear Porsche, it's not you, it's me.
I sold my 2011 911 S around 6 months ago for a brand new Mercedes sport coupe. Yes the Mercedes is a great car but it's not a Porsche. I didn't realize how much I would miss the Porsche until I traded her in. At this point I feel as if my Porsche is like the super hot ex girlfriend that you still think about. If my 911 had a phone, I'm sure I would have drunk texted it by now to ask if I can go for a spin.
Anyone experience sellers remorse after selling their Porsche for a non P car? How did you deal?
Im thinking I need to get a Porsche again as a weekend car. I'm going to start hunting for a 05+ Carrera or Boxster.

Ha! I actually have a little feeling the other way, don't get me wrong the 911 is a childhood dream come true but honestly the AMG E63 was THE CAR of CARS! Sure it's not as beautiful and I don't the get nearly the enjoyment of looking at it compared to the Widebody 911. But that car was truly Effortless and could take on any personality you wanted it to. Sport II lower the suspension, set it to manual and hear the exhaust backfires at decel, put in comfort and it's like riding on a cloud. The best part I could always enjoy my cigars! Porsche is the hardest car to enjoy a cigar in of all the cars I have owned but again it's not meant for that. I do miss my AMG and I will be back for a AWD S model wagon when my family starts coming along.
Hopefully with the 911 still in the garage

Sold my 993 for profit to use as seed money and do regret it, worth lots more now and I miss the air cooled engine. But I came back, now have Cayenne and 911, and will always have a Porsche in the garage.

They are worth 4 times more today...

Although I still own my first 911 I find I ve been sorry numerous times as I miss cars that I ve sold. Most recent 2010 E550. (traded that for the 911). I thought I was the only one who had these thoughts. And I confess I have thought about selling the 911 as it is not a DD.

I can't see myself finding anything else (apart from either another 911 or maybe an Aston or Ferrari) that would be a worthy replacement for a 911. Financially I think I bit off more than I could chew in getting mine so I have considered selling it, but I wouldn't replace it with anything right away; just suck it up and get another 911 when the time came.
I'm in the same boat with my RS6; with only 860 sold in the U.S. I don't want to think about ever losing this car and having to find a comparable replacement. I could potentially see myself in another B8 S4 but it wouldn't feel as special.

Jon, I ran a strikingly similar path to you! I just came from a white 2010 370Z nismo. I bought it new late in 2010 and drove it for four years. It was an awesome car but it didn't stir my soul the way the S2000 it replaced managed to. I bought a black 997 GTS this week and am very happy with the new car.

Lots of people provided experience showing buyers remorse, some of them after transitioning to exotics.
My experience after one month: well the first 2 weeks I was so into the new car, the super luxurious interiors, the comfortable rear seats for the kids in the back. Then one evening I came home, and it hit me. I had a burning desire to drive my 911. Not sure how to describe it, but I guess your ex girlfriend metaphor gives the idea. In short, this weekend I washed it, pampered it and drove it around all day long, running errands, the laundry store, the supermarket.
Buy another 997. I have a 2008, recommend to go with that year if you go with a 997.1 to minimize IMS concerns. Not sure that I would get an old model Boxter, just does not sound like a comparable Porsche experience.

I left Porsche for Aston Martin and I am coming back because I can only have one car for a bit and repairs on an AM are just too high to risk making it a DD (not that I don't have confidence in the cars in general and I definitely don't doubt it's abilities to handle daily duties) but as it goes I'll be racking up 10-15k miles year and AMs face worse depreciation rates based on said mileage.
I do hope to find myself in a Vanquish in the future but for now a 911 will be just what I need. And yes, I missed various aspects of Porsche ownership and I am happy to be back.
