Installed TuneRS Direct oil feed kit on my 2005 3.6 Tiptronic 5000km ago. Great kit. 2005 cars come in both dual row and single row bearing formats. Even the Vin# can misidentify the type of IMS bearing in the car.
Remove the transmission and get a visual on the IMS to be absolutely sure before ordering the correct kit. Replace the bearing while you are at it. So glad I did this. Total peace of mind with my car now. The 997 is a keeper and definitely the best daily driver commute car for my needs.

 

Removing the transmission to get a visual just isn't feasible so I am going to have to trust the VIN#, or should I say engine number, anything above 68509791 apparently has the 3rd revision larger bearing. My engine number is 68514175.


When you say replace the bearing while you are at it, that can't apply to the 3rd revision IMS as I thought there was no way to access the IMS without stripping the entire engine? How did you replace yours? What product did you replace it with?


If I end up getting the DOF kit, any suggestions for replacing other items while this is being done? I have a tiptronic.

 

For those of us with the larger upgraded IMS our only choices are DOF kit or remove IMS seal. Unless you want to fork out for 40 hours labor.


Has anyone just removed the factory seal from their IMS or know someone who has?

 

No one? well this should get you all talking then, a very highly regarded source of information in IMS issues advise against the DOF kit, they're opinion is it robs the heads of oil. And that constant lubrication is not required on the IMS bearings. Their view is that just 1cc of oil per minute on the bearings is sufficient lubrication and you get more than that by removing the seal.
