Problems with 09 4s Cabriolet

Hello All,

Looking to purchase my first Porsche.

Eyeing an 09 4S Cabriolet. 50k miles. Car is clean and its coming from a buddy.

He hasn't had any problems with it, but I was wondering if there were any general failings to look out for? Trying to keep an open mind to upcoming costs or those nice suprise repairs as I know they won't come cheap.

Any helps or info would be appreciated.

If it's a PDK car don't buy it without a warranty, can't fix a PDK. Porsche will only swap out the entire unit at $17k. Do a PPI and if it's a Manual 6spd a Over Rev report. Otherwise enjoy in good health!

That said a good friend of mine who's fathers a lawyer always said, "never sell cars to family or friends it's nothing but a headache."

Something to consider....

Hi Motams,

Thanks for the response!

Yeah, its a 6 spd not a PDK so no worries about that.

As for PPI, I can get one, but I'm not worried about the current condition of the car. Owner is a friend and is meticulous with his cars and all maintenance done on time at Rusnak.

I'm more concerned with any known issues that seem to be occuring with a fair amount of owners later on down the road with more miles or any known issues at all with this particular model/year.

I would still do a PPI, personally. I would also call your dealer and run the VIN and see what was done to it under warranty. Bore scoring is the only thing that I have seen through threads and definitely not a problem. But was the car revved prior to warm up? These cars take forever to warm up. I don't care if the car was serviced regularly. To stay out of the throttle till the motor is warm is probably tough for most and the suspect for most bore scoring issues. The cars are pretty bullet proof especially in 6spd but it is an 09 which is first year of refresh and some had a high pressure pump recall, should check and be sure it was done. I am new to the 911 scene but been around cars my whole life and this information is what I have gathered. Good Luck!

I have a 2 wheel 08 cab S and nothing out of the unusual IMHO. Tires - if you're going to drive it, oil changes and maintenance are the staples.

I have owned a 2009 C2S with MT since September 2012 and have enjoyed 14K trouble free miles since purchasing her. I bought it CPO from a local dealer and aside from annual maintenance and two new rear tires it has treated me well. My advice is to find a good and reliable Indy shop to maintain her with. My other word of advice is depending upon how often you plan to drive her you may want to invest in a trickle charger, it seems the 911 batteries are a bit finicky and don't hold a charge if the vehicles aren't driven regularly. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

Plugs have already been mentioned......check condition of serpentine belt.....I carry spare because we travel in that car. The 09 C4S is my wife's car and at 60K has been incredible.
About to put on winter fitments plus hard top and drive for the 7th WI winter. Good Luck.
