Bleeding brakes
"If your car has a "PSM off" switch on the dashboard, then you will need to go to a shop that has a PST2 (Porsche System Tester 2) so that the brake system can be bled properly."
Am I missing something here? No one mentions this in any DIY for bleeding brakes on a 997..

I know that to do a proper job you need to get the fluid out of the ABS system. I'm pretty sure that Durametric can actuate the system as well. I'm sure you're quoted statement has something to do with that.

Yes, I didn't realise I was about to try it the 'improper' way. So do most ppl not bother with getting the fluid out of the ABS system?
Is there another method of getting it out of the ABS system? If you bled the system, drove it for a few days then bled it again would that ensure all the fluid is fresh or doesn't it work that way?
Surprised no one mentioned this before...

Ok been doing some reading on this, it appears you only have to bleed the ABS system if air has been introduced into the system. It appears that when you drop your car off to the dealer for a brake fluid flush they will not bleed the ABS unless something is wrong.
Does brake fluid in the ABS move throughout the system when ABS is initiated? Or is it always contained within?

Just spoke with Durametric, their tool can do this. Problem solved.
$287 for the kit + shipping.
I'd prefer to bleed the ABS system as well since I only plan on doing this every 2 years.

Yeah, in other cars (like my Audi) you just have to cycle the ABS during the bleed process, and this can be accomplished with an ECU tool like the Durametric

abs not needed for normal flush unless your fluid is years old and/or brown or if youre OCD.
if the latter, you could always flush, do a short quick drive and trigger ABS (to get old out of there/new in), then flush immediately again.
overkill.
