Advantages of Lightweight Wheels??
#1
Hi All, I have been looking at performance mods for my 911 including a tune but I reading a lot of "no real gain" when put on a dyno, especially if you do it outside of the purchasing shop. Which may or may not be true. So I have started to consider light weight wheels, but I am not truly certain of the gains for example: OEM Turbo Wheels are 23lbs in the front and almost 28lbs in the rear. I have seen people post for sale BBS wheels that 17lbs in the Front and 20lbs in the rear that's a lot of weight savings! Nearly 23%!! But when you drive the car how does it compare in feeling? Has anyone done 1/4mile or lap times with heavy compared to lighter weight wheels even VBox numbers would work for me. I just want to understand where is the biggest untapped bag for the dollar outside of interior weight reduction.
Also note I understand 18s are the best for the car and especially tracking but the visual look of the 19s and they fill the wheel well makes it difficult to go with 18s considering I will rarely track the car
Thanks for the Knowledge KC

I think u r on the right track.
Light-weight wheels is the best way to increase ur car's performance imho
Not only will it reduce ur overall weight, it will reduce the unsprung weight.
That will most likely result in faster acceleration, quicker brake time, better handling, and even better mpg.
