How to replace clutch and flywheel on a 997.1 C4S/C2S

Folks,

After reading Rotmilky tutorial (Rennlist) on how to change the clutch and being in the need to replace the clutch on my 2006 C4S, I decided to jump in this adventure with both feet and published a tutorial to help our small Porsche community.

Below is the link to the tutorial:

http://murenae.com/FTP_Files/997_Clutch_Work.pdf

Although this is not an easy task, it can be done with some help and access to a few tools. My admiration goes to Rotmilky for doing this in his garage and by himself.

Enjoy and be safe.

Yves

awesome job on the write up and thanks for sharing. I recently had the dealer change my 2006 C4S clutch. Just did not have the time to do it myself and it blew up on me big time. I knew it was going bad and I did one too many aggressive clutch moves...
But I have a friend with a carrera who may want to do this job himself with my help, so hopefully this will come in handy!!

Thank you all for the compliments!

I like to return the favor of tutorials to the Porsche community in the best possible way. Hopefully, this write-up will help or decide some hands-on enthusiasts to tackle this project.

Overall, it is not a great saving money wise, to do it yourself, but for me it is paramount as I want to know how the car is designed and do the repair in the best possible conditions. It is also a way to know what went wrong instead of signing blindly a few thousands dollars bill.

The car was 67K miles when the clutch/pressure plate gave up. This is my first manual car to be so fragile (and I have had many that I took to 150K miles and plus) as I drive it in a very respectful and careful way. Tough luck, I suppose.

Well, you got about average miles out of yours. The dealer told me clutches last 60-70k for the average driver. I purchased my car with 6300 miles on it 5 yrs ago and My clutch blew up at 57k. A couple of the "fingers" on the pressure plate snapped. The disc and flywheel still had life left in them, but the pressure plate gave up the ghost early
I also track my car several times a year and I run the canyons a few times a month. I heal toe a lot on down shifts and I am also a "quick shifter". Comes from my days of track and drag racing back in the 90's I was bummed it gave out at 57k because it was a chunk of money to replace, but for my driving style I was not surprised when it did..

Fantastic work on the tutorial !!! just what I needed to get that additional push to do it myself

Great write up, I believe if you should work on the car yourself if you have the abilities. Bring you one step closer in connecting with the car. Besides I don't really trust anyone near mine been burnt too bad in the past with stealerships and so called mechanics.

Thanks again !!!

PS where can I get hold off a copy of the Porsche DVD, do you have a link etc..
