Buying a used 997: Help Decipher Autocheck Vehicle History Report
Grateful for experienced insights into deciphering the Autocheck report. Looks relatively clean, apart from two events:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 Event(s) Reported: 9 Vehicle events checked:
OK No accident record reported through accident data sources
OK No corrected title record
OK No duplicate title record
(!) Emission/safety inspection record(s)
(!) Loan/Lien record(s)
OK No fire damage incident record
OK No repossessed record
OK No theft record
OK No storm area registration/title record
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Is the emissions flag normal for a used 997? Shall I pay more attention to it?
* Would the loan/lien record be considered normal? Would this cause issues / delays in getting the title/pink slip?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Copied below are the relevant data from the chronological order section:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event date Data Source Details
04/07/2013 Auto Auction REPORTED AT AUTO AUCTION
04/11/2013 Auto Auction REPORTED AT AUTO AUCTION AS DEALER VEHICLE
05/02/2013 Motor Vehicle Dept. REGISTRATION EVENT/RENEWAL
05/16/2013 Motor Vehicle Dept. TITLE (Title #:____________) (Lien Reported)
09/06/2013 Motor Vehicle Dept. REGISTRATION EVENT/RENEWAL
09/22/2013 Motor Vehicle Dept. TITLE (Title #:____________) (Lien Reported)
10/16/2013 Motor Vehicle Dept. TITLE (Title #:____________)
03/15/2014 Independent Emission Source PASSED EMISSION INSPECTION
PASSED SAFETY INSPECTION
09/19/2014 Independent Emission Source PASSED EMISSION INSPECTION
PASSED SAFETY INSPECTION
10/24/2014 Motor Vehicle Dept. REGISTRATION EVENT/RENEWAL
09/27/2015 Independent Emission Source PASSED EMISSION INSPECTION
PASSED SAFETY INSPECTION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not surprising that the dealer believes this is "not a problem" but of course she would as she is interested in shifting the car asap
Thanks x 1000000

The only thing I see is that it went thru auction so you really won t get any history as you might if you bought from a private trusted seller. I don t see any issue with the 2 things you point to, looks like normal loan payoffs and inspections to me.

4 owners!
Many thanks - checked CARFAX and it shows 4 owners!
Owner 1: Ohio
Purchased: 2007
Type: Personal
Est. length owned:
(4 yrs. 7 mo.)
Owner 2: Ohio
Purchased: 2013
Type: Personal
Est. length owned:
(21 days)
Owner 3: Texas
Purchased: 2013
Type: Personal
Est. length owned:
(1 month)
Owner 4: Texas
Purchased: 2013
Type: Personal
Est. length owned:
(2 yrs. 1 mo.)
The owners in the middle (2 and 3) seem to have held the car for less than a month each. The car seems to be in very good condition, is said to drive great, but there is no Service Book. Priced OK yet it seems to have failed to sell for over a month...
Is this acceptable enough to proceed with leaving a deposit and arranging a PPI, or should I quit now and dash for the hills?

The PPI is the next key step. I bought a 2006 911 2s cabriolet in September with similar history and no records. The carfax report gave me comfort that the 27k miles were accurate. A ppi from a nearby Porsche dealer confirmed the car was in great shape. I flew to New York, drove it around the block and bought it. I love it. I just did the 30k mile service and had all fluids changed to give it a new service record. Everything checked out great .

The Show Must Go On...
Update, I was cheerfully winning the auction on ebay yesterday, but the seller decided to pull the listing at countdown stage 40mins prior to closing. When I enquired, I was advised that someone showed up on the doorstep offering the asking price which was far from low
Grateful for all your inputs here, learning something new everyday.

Bummer. My car was on Ebay for 2 days after I decided but the seller said he would only sell for the reserve price as is whether on ebay or not. Seller owes Ebay some commission if it is taken off just before auction finishes. I was lucky and tagged the car 5 minutes after the auction ended so there was no Ebay comission involved. I can't imagine buying without A ppi.Happy hunting.

No. I spotted the car on Ebay when I was shopping for comparables to a car for sale locally.I liked the car, contacted the seller and learned how ebay auctions worked. I had to wait 2 days for the car not to reach its reserve price on ebay and for the ebay auction to end. I then called the seller and bought it directly from him after he took it to a nearby dealer for a ppi.
