PDK - changes over the years?
Hi guys, new here. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I searched and could not find anything. I am looking to possibly get a p-car and am wondering if there are years to look out for where the PDK improved.
I know the 991 PDK is an improvement over the 997 PDK but are there differences between say the PDK in a 2009 997 vs a 2012 997? I am assuming any changes would apply to 987s as well? Thank you!

Depends on what you consider "improved". Many seem to think the softer, roll over shifts of the later versions is an improvement. Others including myself liked the earlier versions better. My -09 C4S was a launch car and had the very first version of the PDK. In sport plus/manual it snapped through the gears in what seemed like a milli second with a nice little pop from the exhaust. Unfortunately it failed and was replaced under warranty with the newer "improved" version. Hated it. Even in sport plus/manual it felt lazy compared to the original. I asked the dealer if it could be re-programmed to the earlier specs but the answer was no. "This is how they are now".
wow that makes total sense Thank you for clarifying.
I had recently driven a 2011 Boxster PDK and I really felt the shifts were so lazy and slow. I thought maybe it was because I jumped in the 2011 after driving 6000 miles in one month on a 2015 Cayman PDK.
My friend has a 2009 Cayman PDK (which I have had plenty of seat time in) and from what I remember- your description of difference in earlier and later PDK is exactly what I also felt.
btw, 991 PDK is lightyears ahead of the 997. That 2015 Shifts so fast.. it's like a video game ! Extremely button sensitive.

I had a 2009 1st year Carrera S with PDK and Sport Plus Mode and a 2012 Carrera GTS with Sport Plus Mode....not really any difference between the 2. Both cars had a lot of track use and shifted the same on the track.
