Have you done a IMS retrofit/fix on M97 engines?

I own a 2007 Carrera S with 18K miles. Bought the car two years ago with 10K miles on it with a two year CPO warranty which expires this April. I am considering keeping it however have been concerned about the IMS issue with these M97 motors. I've learned these years have the larger bearing and not many have failed. Regardless, wondering how many out there with the M97 motor have done the IMS fix and if so, which one you did it with.

Thanks in advance,

Kalamazoo

Your car has the larger bearing and I would not worry about it. By the way, the larger bearing cannot be removed/replaced without opening the crankcase.

You are fine. Just change the oil on a regular basis (no more than 7.5K miles) and the engine will last forever.

I recently changed my oil using Mobile 1's 0/40W. I read somewhere that owners recommend a high viscosity oil. What oil are you using?

I'm using JGR DT-40. In the summer, I'll spike it with a little DT-50 to keep the oil pressure up during hotter weather. I'll also continue to inspect the oil filter medium for metallic particles at each oil change (every 5-7000 miles). I also use a spin-on oil filter adapter to minimize the oil that bypasses filtering during cold start-up.

I'm not sure if I have the large or small (more easily replaced) bearing but based on the engine code, I think it's the large. If I have to pull the trannie (for example, to replace the clutch), I'll have the IMS sized, and go from there.

5W 40 is what mechanics have recommended here in California. Mobil1 or Motul Xcess are the usuals for this grade. There are other good brands, but not on Porsche's approved list.

Mobil 1 0W-40... better lubrication with cold start-ups.

I have, but mine's a 2005 and had the smaller bearing. Went with the LNE single row pro. The oem bearing was in perfect shape, but my clutch died. M1 0w40 for the entire 10 years/45k miles leading up to the bearing change.

Large bearing here in my 08.

Motul X-cess user here year round (5W-40).Engine runs oh so much smoother than Mobil 1 with less consumption. LN engineering Spin on filter adaptor user as well.

Use Motul X-cess oil, and don't worry about about failure. Excellent shear factor, runs up in the top of the list for high quality oil for sure.

Mobil 1 OW40 every 5k kms.
Replace the bearing when doing a clutch. Otherwise, change the oil.
