Hi guys,

Just got h&r springs installed on my car. Noticed the drivers side is alot lower than the passenger. About a one finger gap on the drivers front, and more than 2 fingerso on the passenger side.

I called the shop that did it and they said i need a corner balance, which i think is a crock oh ****...this isnt adjustable.

Ive driven it 160 miles since the work. does it need more time to settle?

Please advise...i'll put up pictures later.

 

I would take the front wheels off to see if there is a difference in how they installed. My guess is since the springs are not adjustable you either have a bad spring or some missing parts.
1st thing to check is if compensating plates (rubber) and support rings (steel) are directly above the spring.

 

Something went wrong with the installation.
I have had H&R's installed on my previous 996.1
and now my current 997.2 and never had this issue.
Like you mentioned, gap is normally about one
finger all around.

I called the shop, I'm taking it back in on Wednesday for them to take a look. They're a Porsche specialty shop, you'd think they check this stuff.

I hope its not bad springs, then I'd have to deal with tire rack.

 

How does a Porsche speciality shop not look at their work and make sure it is correct? What, were they working on Honda Civics last week? Hope this get sorted quickly.

 

Let me see if I understand what you posted. So, if I am a lowly Honda Civic owner, the work on my car does not need to be correct? That explains why I see all these Honda Civic driving around with parts incorrectly installed and falling off.

 

When I bought My 997 I has issues w the motor. I remember saying to the dealer "if I had bought a Honda I wouldn't be having this problem"

 

Its there today, hopefully I hear back from them soon.
I'm cringing right now, after all the money I spent last thing i want to hear is them say its due to xxxxxx.

Just got it back today. They took care of it.

did they tell you what they did wrong?

 

They put it up retorqued the suspension bits, control arms, etc, so the bushings resettle. They measured the variance for me side to side its only off by 1/4", which is a lot better than before.

Told me to come by in 30 days and they'll remeasure it which is okay with me as I'll be due for an oil change then.

 

1/4" is approx 20% deviation from the expected drop. If it were my car I would jack up each side and get a flashlight in there to check that there are no obvious missing parts. See the attached pic below showing the parts that are easily visible at the top of the assembly, when the car is jacked up (even without wheel removal).
These 3 parts are the most likely candidates that could effect the height if any one of them is missing. In particular the compensating plate most frequently used is 6.5mm in height which is intriguingly similar to what you are seeing in height difference.



Note Part #6 in the diagram is brown in color and can also be seen at the top of the assembly per the pic below:




Also, did you get a copy of the alignment report from them?
