Oil Level Light Failure

Obviously, one has to think twice before setting off on a 200 mile drive when this light comes on! Prior to this message, the actual oil level light was very erratic.
The car is a 2006 Carrera 4 and has 7777 miles (honest!). I do know that the 2005 was the last model with a dip stick. Curious to know if there is a retro fit process for a dip stick. At this point in time, it looks like I have to put it on the trailer and take it to Albuquerque.

You could always change the oil and determine how much comes out and how much you re-filled - that's a pretty good indicator of what's in the crankcase. Better than trailering I would think. 996 was the last 911 with dipstick - eliminated when the 997 was introduced.

Not clear. The level gauge is not working at all? If it is and it is showing ok oil level and you have normal oil pressure on OP gauge I would assume the lightis the problem If the gauge is not working I would be careful. If you have not changed oil lately I like above idea to drain and refill but I'd be concerned about overfill so replace only 7 1/2 qts or so. Good for 200 mile trip I'd say. If oil pressure gauge is reading low at rpms and warm engine I would not drive it.

Turns out that the wiring at the engine for the oil level gauge had been damaged by mice. $700 later, the problem is fixed!

I still can't comprehend why the dip stick was eliminated after the 2005 model year.

Glad to hear you got it sorted...if that's all the damage the mice did, you got off lucky.

Glad you got it sorted out. The fact that it only has 7,700 miles is the reason you had a nice problem. You need to drive it more.
