Time to bid you all farewell - new (to me) 991
First want to say, thank you all so much for the years of information, support, and collaboration. I know this site isn't as popular as it used to be, but I've always enjoyed the 997 6speed forum. Yesterday I decided to part with my amazing 2009 997.2 and upgrade to a big bad (and loaded!) 2014 991 C4S. I was just in love with the build of this car and with 13K miles and a CPO through July '20, it was just not possible to say no. Wishing you all the best, great miles ahead in your wonderful 997's, and hope to see you on the twisties of SOCAL.
Warm Regards, David

Very nice trade. I have had my eye on the 991 4S Targas for a while to replace my wife's 4S coupe. I hope to talk her into a PDK this time around. Sadly, she is making noise about a MBZ SUV.....we will have to see if that lasts or not.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for the kind words and appreciate the feedback. I've had the new car for about three weeks now and here are a few comments and observations that might prove useful:
I absolutely underestimated the value of my 997.2. It's still bugging me, but I'm getting over it (I just need to drive the new car more). My 997.2 with 36K miles was a base C2 with PDK, PSE, Sport Chrono, Lowering Springs, BBS CHR's, and a few other cosmetic odds and ends. The car was in very good to excellent shape. I believe the dealership sold it after only one week on the lot for roughly $5K less than I paid for it nearly 5 years ago. Let that one sink in!! So keep those 997.2's in great shape and don't convince yourselves that it isn't worth $$ just because it's a C2.
Going from an '09 997.2 C2 to a nearly $35K optioned '14 991.1 C4S. Wow is all I can say. I was, like many of you, turned off by the overdone feel of the 991 when they first came out. Electronic steering, luxury coupe fit and finish. I liked how my 997 looked, felt on the inside, devoid of many of the high end gadgets, etc. My 997 had enough to make me happy and that's all that mattered.
However, I've got to tell you, this new car is an absolutely monster AND she's dressed up in a sexy tight fitting low cut dress ready to hit the Met on Saturday night. And with an *** like Beyonce. 0-60 only felt better in the '16 Turbo S I drove last weekend. 0-100 goes by QUICK in the C4S. I've taken a few hard corners so far at 'significant' corning speed and this car simply and obediently complies. Whereas it was fun (and relatively easy) to chirp out the rear end of my lowered 997.2, this car seems to laugh at me asking 'please let me know when you're going to attempt to drive me hard because you ain't there yet'.
The electronic steering IS different but I won't say in a 'bad' way. I absolutely do miss the total feedback the 997 gave me through the wheel, but honestly, this disappointment is quickly forgotten when you feel the wider track and outright poise this new car feels on the road. Nothing really seems to bother the car. Going over small potholes, uneven surfaces, nothing. It just feels...planted. Vastly different than my 997.2; maybe because this is my first experience in a C4. Not sure. Either way, I'm not hung up about the loss of the hydraulic front end.
3. PDK. Look, I'm not going to get into the debate about 6 (now 7) speed manuals vs. PDK. I wanted a PDK when I bought my 997.2 in '11, and I still want a PDK now. My '71 Bug is four on the floor. If I wanna drive a stick, I'll bash around in that. However, the NEW PDK in this car, a five year evolution from the original '09 PDK in my 997.2 is absolutely night and day different. So much better, so much smoother. I can honestly only tell it's shifting because I visually see the numbers go up and down on the dash. A big and happy change over the '09. LA traffic will never put me into a 7 Speed, and with the Sport Steering wheel and Sport Chrono/Giggle Button, I didn't miss it in the 997 and I won't ever miss it in the 991. But what a massive change in PDK from '09.
4. The rest of this car is typical Porsche, it has a few minor quirks in squeaking door cards, etc. but I never minded it in the C2, and don't much mind it in this car. Other thoughts - the 20" wheels fill the wheel arches well, and given the downright comfortable ride that moves to aggressive with PASM and Sport Mode on, I'm far less inclined to mess with the suspension on this car than I was planning to do in the C2 (KW V3's were in the planning stage).
5. I have already done my first mod - side indicators as one would obviously expect. New gas cap shows up today (I mean I had to...lol) and she's going in for PSE on the 13th. I MISS PSE. I have an Akrapovic exhaust setup on my F30 335i, but I can't justify the $10,000 plus install that the titanium setup would cost on the 991. PSE was good enough for me on my 997.2 and I've haggled with the dealer to install the PSE all in with wiring/coding for $3500.
Enough for now. Happy (and safe) motoring this holiday weekend. Gonna take the new ride to Super Car Sunday. Stop by and say hi if you guys do the same.

Thanks! and only 15 months...lots of time for a transition to 991! Enjoy your ride as well. Where in VA are you? Many many years living in Fredericksburg and still work out of the Navy Yard in Washington DC.
