DME for 2006 C4S I am planning to buy

Guys,
Want to buy this C4S 2006 with 100,000 KM. I am getting a good price. There is some work and I need to work on it but one thing thats scaring me is the DME report. There are hits on Level 4. 42 of them. I like the car otherwise. Any opinions that you have?

many would say to not worry about it. but they usualy say this because it happen 1000 hours ago.
but that overrev was less than 100 hours ago. so very recent.

best would be a PPI at your Porsche dealer and get their input and have them focus on the overrev parts in the engine that could have suffer.

The range 5 and range 6 are anomalies. One ignition is nearly impossible, especially in range 6 with 5 still being only 1.

Range 3 and 4 happened more than 100 hours ago (current hour counter is 3362, range 3 and range 4 happened at hour 3212, so 150 hours exactly). Normally range 4's are a caution area but if there were engine problems as a result you would expect it to show up within 100 hours of the event. So caution on the range 3 and 4 but not enough to give up on the car alone.

Range 1 are not a problem. It's hitting the rev limiter but the engine was designed for it. Range 2 are low counts slightly above rev limit, again not an issue.

The bigger issues is the hours versus mileage (kilometers). If my math is correct its 3300+ hours on a 62K miles car, averaging to just under 19 mph average speed. This is way too low for a car unless it spent it's life in bumper to bumper traffic. I'd be concerned the odometer was rolled back. Is there an equivalent of carfax report for this car? Are the service records available? Both should show the mileage versus time events to make sure things are accurate.

Nice catch Semi ! yea... hopefully youre tlking KM's?

I passed on 2 other 4s's I had preliminary P car dealer DME's out of state reveal
some poor driving habits by the owners. Im willing to pay $300 bucks to hook up the DME report before ponying up the flights for inspection.

I don't know enough about the ranges, but from all the info ive read over the years, I feel most will shy away from this one. But if it runs well, fits your options criteria, and you want to buy a warranty, maybe you buy it.
with these miles....its likely on the affordable side?

Whats the owner history?
maintenance record(s)?
water pump, coils, clutch, RMS....IMS, bla bla bla.

GL !

What's up with the "airbag 3653 hrs"?

How can an airbag (?) have more hours on it than the "DME" (engine)?

I wonder has the DME been replaced?

its affordable thats what attracting me to this car. i know i have to do some work on this car. it was not well taken care of IMO.
the thing that scaring me the most is the IMS failure. else I am good.
i contacted porsche but they don't sell warranty if they are not selling the car.
some porsche mechanics are ok with range 4 but they get scared when they see level 5 and 6.
the positive thing is that level 4 happened 150 hours ago. and there are 42 hits (low number imo but i m no way an expert)

thanks for the detailed response. average speed is 35km/hour which i would say is average for canadian roads (if there is not much highway use)

I thought the airbag hours counter starts from the key in, even with the engine off. The DME counter starts only when the engine is running. So any time the car is off but the key in the airbag counter advances but the DME one does not.

I'm pretty sure I saw this on my car when doing some radio upgrade work. I don't have my numbers in front of me but thought my airbag counter was roughly 10% higher, similar to OP's report.
