Just replaced HVAC control - No PIWIS

Hi all:

Just thought I'd share a data point with ya. Like so many of us, I really hated looking at and using the worn HVAC buttons in my 2006 C2S cab. I tried the cheap stickers that are available from a few eBay sellers but they never looked right. Finally, after months of watching and waiting, a pristine climate control unit showed up on eBay. I threw an offer up of $200 and won it. It arrived yesterday and I installed it today. The unit came out of a 2008 Boxster that was totaled. Elsewhere on various forums there are warnings that swapping units without initializing it with PIWIS will throw a code or the unit won't function properly. I took the chance, and after I hooked it up and turned on the ignition, the new unit worked just fine - no PIWIS, no expensive trip to the dealer.

So there you go! I can't say that a direct swap without initializing with PIWIS will work for everybody, but it sure worked for me! The buttons on the new unit are hard plastic and don't have the rubberized "slush" finish so they won't wear like the originals, either. Right on! Happy, happy, joy, joy! Now to do something about that damn scratched up center console...

Did the same with the same experience, however I just swapped the front fascia, not the whole thing to avoid reprogramming issues.

My mechanic tells me there is a error with the fan that is built into the HVAC control unit that won't go away. No clue and doesn't seem to affect my fan control at all.

I did the same. No faults in the exchange.
