Friction via Detailing = Electrical Short?

Thanks for the details about detailing, I'm paranoid about my paint, I have a black benz and she's at 30,000 miles and I have NEVER washed in the conventional sense - all washes strictly via spray bottle and micro fiber. The paint remains as about perfect as a commuter can look.

With respect to my 997 headlights, I didn't use a polisher, just a simple (but vigorous) hand waxing.

What's rejex?

I really can't say what Rejex is exactly but I do know that it is a petroleum distillate based product so it's not synthetic. It is completely abrasive free. Goes on easy and off even easier. It leaves a really nice shine and lasts a really long time. Best of all, it prevents crap from sticking to the paint. Bird droppings, bugs, etc etc. I have tried Zaino and IMO, Rejex is a better product. I believe you can get some through Bumper Plugs Eric.

We've been detailing cars since 1995, and this is a first. About 80% of our business is Porsche and I cannot remember a time where we created enough static electricity that it would malfunction you computer or electrical system. Perhaps it's another issue that caused your problem ICN.

I agree, it seems odd.

What's interesting is that I called the service department after it happened, and immediately after I described the erorr message, "System Alert, Take to Workshop," the first words out of the service guys mouth:
"Were you waxing the headlights?"

Apparently the key is not waxing the paint per se, but the headlights...

He went on to say that you must have three things to have this occur:
1. A controller that is susceptible
2. Friction from detailing the headlights
3. Weather conducive to increased static (windy)
