2013 slk 250 mercedes conv 20k vs 2006 911 carrera conv 40k (pristine)

Ok I bought the SLK with only 10k and no two yrs later 20k with extended warranty 6 yrs or 100k. So it practically brand new.

So my question is which of the two is in for the long haul and primary auto driving 33 mi round trip can I expect cost of owning. I know no can predict this but the Porsche is en excellent condition so it seem it was kept in the garage. But I will be driving 24/7.

I about to retire in 5 and with that comes lower income and don't want to keep shelling out my hard earned $$ to enjoy my dream car.

The SLK annual oil change ets has been $430 just put on new rear tires after 20k mil guess I punched it one to many times vs the Porsche (?).

Thanks myharisonfire2003@yahoo.com

So I'm on my 4th 911 and this is the only one I have put enough miles on to get into the replacement timeframe, and all seem to be coming at one time. I have 83k miles on a 2008 S Cab and at the 81k mark the starter shorted, water pump had to be replaced, quickly followed by the brakes. Call me crazy but I use my dealer, 2 years parts and labor at ONE place, so the cost is a little higher and for all 3 it was somewhere between $6-8k. Not cheap but hopefully I'll get another 80k out of those replacement parts.

About the only expenses with 997s are coolant tank (cracks), water pump, plugs & coils, tires, clutch and then the odd little things (door handle plastic axle, etc). Our 2 997s have been our most reliable cars with very little spent on ongoing maintenance and my wife DD's hers. I just rented an SLK and the 2 cars are also not in the same league from a driving enjoyment perspective - I had to put the seat in the SLK all the way back and it constantly squeaked against the back wall, interior materials weren't as nice as my full leather 997, and it just wasn't exciting at all.

The best answer, given your goal, is to sell and buy a new Honda or Toyota. You can be pretty sure you won't have any issues at all and will have a warranty to cover it bumper to bumper.

If you love the Porsche, that is the correct car. I think if you buy the Porsche and budget $1-1.5K a year for maintenance, (should be much less-especially if you do your own minor maintenance) you can bank the residual for those bigger repairs that will likely come as the car gets older. Our 997.2 has 40K on it now and has been a terrific car. The only issue we had, was replacing the water pump and that was covered by the Fidelity Platinum extended warranty we have on the car. That and tires, of course. I always figure about $1,200 for tires ever other year.

I personally do not care for the SLK and still have not been pleased with MBZ reliability after owning a few of them. Although, to be fair, my last MBZ was a '10 E350 coupe I bought new so maybe they have improved in the past 7 years.

Judy, you are 71 years old? If so, the SLK is much more comfortable and easier to get in and out of for a daily driver. It's cheap to maintain but if you really want a Porsche then do get one. It's a better driver's car and you'll have a lot more space in the back.
