BEWARE of Mahle oil filter sold on Amazon
i purchased a Mahle oil filter for my 2011 Carrera S. what i received was an ill fitting counterfeit. MAHLE Original OX254D4ECO Oil Filter
when i tried to install it, it wouldnt go into the car. then i saw the endcap hole was too small. looked at the original that came out of the car and realized endcap holes on new filter were too small but also that they were thin and flimsy as compared to the original filter. 1mm vs 3mm thickness.
new filter basically uses a thick cloth for the endcap so i used a knife to carve it out to make it fit the car. original filter has thick endcaps that are the same diameter as the thru hole of the filter.
mahle name and part # were printed on new filter using same printer that prints expiration dates on gallon milk jugs. original has bold and easily readable printing on end cap

It the filter looks that different and is a knock-off, I'm not sure I'd install it and run my motor with it. Filtration capability might not be up to par, if it has an integrated bypass valve, that spring may not be to spec or strong enough, allowing for unfiltered oil to pass back through the motor, etc

Can't speak to the Amazon filter but I bought an "OEM" filter mail order for my new 2008 Cayman S and elected to not use it because when placed next to a geninue Porsche filter, one bought from a Porsche dealer parts department the mail order filter just didn't give me the warm fuzzies and I tossed it and used the geninue article.
Regarding the size of the hole the hole is smaller in the new filter because the hole expands when the filter element fits on/over the spigot. The small hole is to help the end cap material create a seal that causes the oil to flow through the filter element and not around it.
By opening up that hole you may have introduced way for oil to make it past the filter and into the engine. Thus the engine is being fed unfiltered oil.
My advice is go get a proper oil filter and remove the one in the engine now and install the proper oil filter -- do not carve on it! -- and from now on just get your filters and sealing rings and such from the dealer parts department.

Same Issue
I found this thread because I had the same issue with the same filter but it was purchased from FCP Euro for a 2010 Panamera. I also noted the filter I took off had a bigger hole. I didn't use a knife to carve a bigger hole but after getting some oil on the new filter, with some force, I was able to force the filter over the spigot for a snug fit. Next time I'll use a Porsche filter and see if there is indeed a difference between the openings of new filters.
