Agreed. Very open to hearing them out. Maybe they just didn't like the cut of my jib

Thank you! I have a hard time calling any 911 a true "sleeper", but the idea was to have more bite than bark

I think Tom had told me the spring is set for 6.5 lb and there should be 5lb boost at the intake.
I'll have to say when I was installing my kit (I did buy it from TPC directly) that Tom was "Johnny on the spot", even answering questions on the weekend (when I was doing alot of the work).
I have not put alot of miles on my 08 C4S TPC conversion. No complaints until the other day, I passed by the car and saw some oil under the turbo. I emailed Tom, never heard from him. I emailed Harris and he promptly emailed me back saying the turbo needed to be rebuilt. They charge $950 for that.
I might have 1000 miles on the kit since I installed it. No tracking. Not hard miles. A bit disappointed that the turbo needs anything this early. Anyway, I did some digging and spoke with someone at Gpop turbo shop. Ordered a repair kit for T3/T4 turbos for $115, and I'll pay $65 for balancing. The TPC kit comes with AN8 lines and fittings. I think I will increase the size to AN10 just to be sure there is adequate drainage. The car is alot of fun to drive, so I am glad I did the conversion. I do feel that what they are asking for the turbo repair is exorbitant. In disassembling the turbo, darn thing looks new.

1000 miles before needing a rebuild? I saw a similar complaint from another TPC kit owner, but hoped it was an anomaly. That's awful. If mine goes, I'll upgrade to something of halfway decent quality

I honestly think it's just a bad seal. There was no play in the shaft. I havent replaced the journal bearings yet but dont expect them to show any wear. I'm waiting for the balanced compressor and turbine to get back and reassemble.

We'll I can't say I've ever experienced a single problem within a few thousand miles with any of the garrett, precision or OEM turbos I've owned over the years, but there are certainly those rare exceptions regardless of the manufacturer. I took the rear bumper off a few nights ago and inspected mine and there seems to be a bit more shaft play than I'm completely comfortable with, but it may be within spec. I'll be keeping a close eye on it based on what I've seen so far.

Made two updates to the car

Added a recirculated Greddy FV BOV

Also installed a MOST HUR and Sony AX100 with apple CarPlay < highly recommend both of these products. If you're considering an update to the dated stock unit, this is a great solution. The Sony head unit left the perfect amount of space to mount the MOST unit and the understated design looks almost OEM

Thanks! I was hoping to have the boost controller and tuning done by now, but Greddy must have sent my profec b via rowboat.

Boost controller finally arrived. I installed it yesterday but haven't had a chance to play around with the settings. Looks like it's making about 6 psi before making any adjustments. I don't anticipate ramping it up much from there, but it's nice to have a way to monitor things if nothing else.

Welp, I just crossed over 1,000 miles since the kit was installed and guess what..... the turbo needs to be rebuilt. It's pretty clear that this is not a random occurrence on these kits. The turbo included is simply low quality

Wow, that sucks. Is there a different turbo you can source that will work with the kit? What failed - bearings, impeller, etc?

I haven't actually disassembled the turbo yet, so I'm not sure exactly what went wrong. The sealing rings are the obvious suspect. I noticed persistent smoke after running a quick errand and pulled the turbo after doing a couple diagnostics (I thought maybe it was the AOS at first). After pulling the turbo, the cause of the smoke became clear due to all the oil inside the hot-side, and exhaust pipes.

I'll be looking at all options for replacements and rebuilds (with higher end components)

You think you might need an oil catch-can in addition to the AOS in order to keep the turbo clear of oil? On my 957 Cayenne Turbo S the engine vents into the driver's side intake line to reburn oil vapor for pollution reasons. Problem is when the oil vapor condenses in the intercooler on that side, it over time will fill the intercooler with oil and needs to be periodically drained. Many people believe when they see this that they have a blown turbo, when in fact the turbo itself is fine. Once I get the car back from the widebody conversion currently underway, I plan to install a Mishimoto Baffled & Cleanable Oil Catch Can to prevent this for happening in the future.
