Bought this 09 997.2 quite a few years ago. Opinion seems to be it is a “better” car but I actually enjoy driving the 06 more. Definitely prefer the manual over the PDK and the Maxflo exhaust and headers that came with the 997 sounds amazing.

So, Do you have two 997s? The 09 Blue .2 looks gorgeous. I imagine that like myself, most of future owners of 997s have at some point the dilemma to choose between getting 997.1 (with the IMS issue risk) or going with a 997.2 as “a safer bet” but with a significant hike in price and a much reduced possibility -difficult- to find the one as preferred, as the .2 production was much less in quantity than .1. Personally I never tested/drove a .2 because all examples that I found were way above my budget, so I focused mainly on 06 or 07s. However I read that the new engine for the .2 (with DFI) sounds quieter than the .1 but in any case, I think that 997 (at this moment) is the perfect blend -for me- of affordability, reliability, right size, nice “analog” feeling, and the excellent handling and sound of a P-car. Certainly 991s are incredible too (I tested and drove my friend’s 14’ GT3) but the cost for me is still high for what I’m looking for: a nice, funny, sporty car to drive mostly on weekends, with a manual stick and a good engine sound; and I think that the 997 fill the bill perfectly.

Sorry for the late reply. I will give you my opinion as an owner of a 997.2 and a 997. The 997 is definitely a driver's car but the .2 with the PDK is definitely faster. I purchased the Fabspeed x pipe for the 09 and did a 2.5 inch Gundo hack. I did not mind "cutting up" my car at the time because I figured a performance exhaust was in my future anyway. The local muffler shop was more than happy to take care of everything for $200. Coincidentally my seat was in strange setting when it was returned.
The car sounded amazing and i received many compliments on the "sound" after giving friends rides thus i never went onto purchase the sports exhaust. My 09 is also a launch car that I bought in 2011 with 19800 miles on it for $69500. Between the "financial crisis" and the fact that every dealer received four of them I procured a great deal. Really doubt you need to look to trade up unless something really strikes your fancy. My 997 has been my favorite ride over the other cars i have owned,
Cheers!!
Mike

Mike, seems the guy find an excuse to do a “test drive” to “check” the work performed... and forgot to get back you seat adjustment, (Maybe not necessary but totally justifiable indeed:-)!
The car really looks amazing in the pics! Did you applied ceramic coating finish?
Looking soon to make “an excuse” during a weekend to pick up the car and drive away to some interesting roads, maybe up to the hills at Austin , could be interesting. So far mostly every weekend I drive it early in the mornings to some lonely roads for an invigorating sound and experience with the stick and the handling of this thing.... really fun and enjoyable. Seems that is a constant with everyone that get behind the wheel and drives this thing. Cheers
Nelson

Wash, clay then wax. I doubt I will go down the ceramic coating route since one of my favorite hobbies is washing and waxing the car often.

Once paint correction is complete and ceramic coating applied you will see how much cleaner the car stays and how much time is saved when washing. Why wax when you can lock in that new car finish for years?

I can’t blame you as I like to wash and prep my cars too. But decided to try the ceramic coating so I already did it in my 997, and results are well noted! It took some time (specially here with +100degF) as I did myself, but it was worth the effort. All in all purchasing products to clean, prep, do the paint correction and the ceramic coating itself was around 150$, and it wasn’t difficult, just followed the procedure and use the right products.
Now the car looks amazing and it is very easy to wash it and keep it shining. Even the wheels are now very easy to clean break dust. Highly recommended.
