You can probably get a C4S way less than 60 right now, while that wouldn't touch a stripped down 997. If you found a nice C4S, well optioned, 58ish, that would be a far better deal than a spartan 997 for 20k more imo. Of course, nothing beats new. As Ray said, 72k is TT land, if you're talkin' used cars for 70ish that's the way to go, screw the warranty.
Of course I'm biased, I think the 996 C4S is superior to a base 997 in every way, the S is a different story.

I had a 03 C4S and a 05 3.6 997. The C4S was gorgeous, had the PSE, full leather, Bose, etc. The 997 has the Sport Chronos and 19" rims. I would choose the 997 over the 996 C4S any day. Not even close. With the "sport" feature activated on my 997, it becomes a snarling beast. Go for the 997 and never look back. I love my 997. If you want more power and speed, the 997S is available and the 997 GT3 will soon be available. Not a fan of AWD after my C4S, so not considering the TT.
