No offense to you, but why not? lol and I think PorscheC4 and I do compare the stock cars, no contest there, so it's quite logical to take the next step in disscussing the the two.

I think comparing any two fast cars, modded or stock is interesting to do, helps people to see if they obtained any real gains from their mods against a superior car. Maybe I'm weird because I also find straight line acceleration comparo's extremely interesting and fun.

While I support the stock vs stock comparo's, I just think its usually pointless to compare a stock vs modded car; unless its something really ridiculous. Since the runs between a stock m3 and a stock 997s yield the same result w/ 997s' pulling slightly ahead, I think the point has been made: An m3 w/ a little more umph may be able to pass a 997s. Fine. The same could be said of a modded 997s vs a modded m3. The comparisons between these cars at this level are kind of pointless.

I like the stock vs modded comparisons that are ridiculous; for example: stock Enzo versus heavily modded SLK55 AMG w/ SLR engine! Stock Carrera GT vs modded c6 Z06!

I think the next comparison should be a 997TT vs heavily modded m3! That may prove something!

Yea, it kinda is like beating a dead horse at this point. good feedback from the race tho from everyone. i think comparing a modded m3 to a stock 997S is more of seeing what an m3 needs to do to keep up with a benchmark in the sports car market. equals drivers in both stock cars, a 997S pulls away every time. but some guys dont have the money to buy a 911 and then mod and see what they need to do to achieve '911" territory numbers. i think it really says a lot that everyone wants to compare their car to a 911, or a porsche in general. just shows that respect porsches have among all car fans and enthusiasts.

Couple corrections here. The two that ran in the 11's are stage 3 cars, one had a 75 shot as well. The other was on boost only. The times are deceiving as on the highway they both really shine. One raped a stage 2 996 TT. The other Stage 3+++ B5 S4's.

The 12.1 run was actually Scott, Divexxtreme a moderator here and on M3forum as well, very knowledgable about cars in general, I agree he's a straight shooter as well and has helped me alot with info on my car. I'm suprised he hasn't chimmed in on this thread.

The 12.32 at 111 was Lee Mathews, a freak of a driver, the car was a modded N/A car, NO SC, gears, software, intake, pullies DR's and 3200 lbs. or so, completely stock exhaust though.

Both the 12.4X runs were with Stage 2 Super Chargers.

The best time is a 11.9, but the trap is in the 120's, also zero traction on that car, I saw that run in person. In the 1/4 mile the 997 def has a chance due to a far supierior launch against a stage 1 and 2, stage 3 will win, wheelspin or not.

I thought the 997S weighed 3100 lbs. the M3 weighs 3415, with some light weight mods around 3200 or so. Last night, my car lost to Allen's (Srtswpr996's), 997 2S on the highway by 2 CL's at the most and from a 2nd gear roll I even got a slight jump and was even up to third. Still a decent pull by the 997, but I was suprised I hanged with him.

Yes the 997 is unreal for what it is and it shines from a dig, and the traps are unreal, but check out this video with a bone stock M3, a High Compression M3 that ran a 12.3 at 112, and that same SC'd M3 that ran the 12.1 at 117. On the highway different story, the 997S would get destroyed, and the BHS High Comp should beat it as well, 1/4 mile comes down to the driver a highway roll tells us which car is actually faster.

http://www.e46psi.com/link/click.php...n=go&to=video9

Conditons play a roll too, I've seen a few guys run high 12's with their 997's at traps under 110, so the 12.2 and 12.3, although phenomenal, is not the norm, and handful of N/A heavily to lightly modded and 1 stock M3 have ran in the 12's too and that's not the norm.

I'm with you though, a 997 will walk a N/A M3 most of the time but a SC'd M3 is faster than a 997S and a High Compression car can beat it as well.
I def think we're on the same page here. 997's are not as light as you think. i looked up curb weights from mags and came out with 3350 lbs. not far from the m3 weight. while were talking SCers, have you seen the SC's 997 and 997S. the run high 11's at 123-125. Those cars a beasts on a track or highway. the 997S SC'd has 475 CRANK hp, 370 CRANK tq, and the 997 has 470 CRANK hp and 365 CRANK tq. Those numbers are ridiculous. not many cars with those power numbers run that fast. how much did that m3 that ran 11.99 have, 500 RWHP. these 997 cars are only running like 410-420 RWHP and they are faster than the m3 with that much more to the wheels. just goes to show how crazy fast they are and will only become faster with mods. They will take most cars out. Just an unbelievable job by EVO MS on those.

PorscheC4, I agree that it is good feedback on this forum, but that's because we're humoring it probably because we've run into it in the past. While it is flattering that m3 owners compare their cars to ours, I don't see porsche owners doing the same thing (I never say: Wow! I beat that BMW/Mercedes).

I'm more impressed when I burn a Ferrari off the road (in the rare event I'm not busy looking at it and enjoying the sound of the exhaust!)

I can't disagree with that, haha. I think this is a case of an M3 owner, just got it about a year ago, learning more about the 997S and what it's capable of, and how I faired against a superior car, with just a few mods. To be honest, I didn't know until recently, so this is new and exciting to me, but as I can see old news around here of course.

Not really, only on M3forum.com, on which anyone except the regular posters are IDIOTS.

On dragtimes.com for instance, other than the two that ran 11.972 and 11.980 at 123 and 125, both of which were stage 2+ and then the stage 1s that ran: 12.199 at 117, 12.32 at 111, 12.41 at 116, 12.43 at 119. i dont find these cars to be for the most part faster than a 997S. Yes i think they are faster, but not by too much. Considering that most of these are dynoing around 390 or so to the wheels and have gutted out some of the car, and the 997s dynos about 310 to the wheels and weights more than these cars and car run mid 12's at 112-115 from what ive seen. the advantage is def on the m3s side and i think with a good driver the 997s can keep up with most of these sc'd m3s. so give yourself some credit man, youre a good driver and have a sick car that is def faster than a fully modded NA m3.
Sorry but a SC M3 will destroy a 997S.

not sure if that made ANY sense whatsoever, so i will explain. These stage 1 m3s dyno about 390 RWHP and most have weight reductions that bring them down to 3100-3200. A stock 997S dynos about 310 RWHP and weight in at about 3350, a good 150lbs heavier and not to mention the 80 or so RWHP is doesnt have compared to the M3. The best time I have ever seen for a stock 997S was in a mag and was 12.3 at 115. The best time for the SC'd m3 was 12.199 at 117. Now look at what we have here, M3-390RWHP and 3200lbs vs. Stock 997S-310 RWHP and 3350 lbs. But look at the times. 12.199@117 and 12.3@115. Now 2 MPH to me based on those stats does not make much sense, at least not to me. Def love m3s but the 997 just seems to almost defy everything.
Didnt make much sense. Your talking about BEST times for a 997S driven by Pro's with magazines at probably very good tracks. Then you are comparing it to only a handful of SC M3's that have made it to the track, none of which were raced anywhere near there greatest potential. No the 997S doesnt defy everything.

I dont think a SC m3 will destroy a 997S, at least not a stage 1. Well anyway, we already said we are comparing a stock car to a modded car. lets compare a Stage 1 SC'd 997 or SC'd 997S vs a stage 1 SC'd m3. M3 gets crushed in that contest hands down. If you didnt know, the 997 SC runs high 11's at 123+ mph with only 470 hp and 364 tw. The 997S SC runs mid 11's at 124+ with 475 hp and 370 tq. Those numbers are just plain sick. And they were driven by average drivers, and will prob pull on even your 650+ hp m3 and any other stage 3+ to speak of. not to say your car isnt a good car, because ive seen you car and the thing is nice, except im not a fan of red cars, but the body work etc are very nice. Just the SC'd 997 911's are extremely fast and pull high traps. Curious, whats your m3 weigh? I know you did the CF roof so wondering what with all the CSL parts and the roof and all others bring your weight to?

Yes it will. Well lets compare the M6 to the 997S then, cuz a little 60k M3 isnt such a great comparison 100k 997S. I would love to race a SC'd 997S. That 997 was driven properly, i ran a 11.9@123 with a 1.9 60 foot at one of the worst tracks in the country. Im sorry but theres no way that 997 would pull on me. My M3 weighs about 3250.

Thats pretty light. I actually thought it was lighter tho. I think the 997 SC would be a good race for u, no nos, and better driver would win. i think a SC 997S would pull on u a little bit tho, no nos still on ur car. dude, the 997 only weighs 3350. not too much more than your car. Those cars were also being driven on 20's, and with 19's or 18's would run even faster.
