JACKING the 997
Well I'm ready to start with the mods on my 997 but I'm wondering how you get it up on jackstands ?
Is it the same method used on the 993 ? Is there a front/center jack point to get stands under the front at the same time? Also, can you jack the rear up from under the motor ?
Thanks in advance.

Good call - I have a pair for quick stuff, but for changin headers, exhaust etc I like to have all 4 corners up - plus I need to pull the wheels for some of the stuff I'm doing. thx for the suggestion though.

There are jack points behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels.
Per the manual :
1. NEVER lift the vehicle at any point other than the jacking points.
2. NEVER lift the vehicle by the engine, transmission or axles.....
Hope this answers your question.

Usually I take what the manual says with a grain of salt, but in this case, as the 997 has a very differnt engine layout (oil pan) from the 993 - I'm inclined to heed #2 above
Thanks for the replies.

Floor Jack Adapter
I saw this floor jack adapter on ebay. Looks like a solid piece to use if you have a floor jack to work with.

jack up each side by the rear jackpoints. set your jack stands on the front.
there is a jackpoint on the motor, at least on the 3.6 liters. it's in the middle, so you can jack up the rear of the car evenly. it's hard to explain where it is exactly. maybe somebody on here has a pic.
jack the rear up from the motor point, set your rear jackstands . reverse to remove.
this technique was taught to me by a porsche tech at the dealership.
ignore the underlining and bold sections. i posted before i turned my spell checker off.

Per Porsche, the motor should not be used to raise the car ( 997 S )
I raise one side of the car at the rear , place a jackstand in front and a car ramp under the rear wheel.
Repeat on the other side .

i believe the 996 says it in the manual too. i think the factory is being overly cautious so that some jackass doesn't crush the oil pan
i wish i could take a pic of the spot but my car is too low. my tech actually used a sharpie to put an "X" on it so i would not forget .

here's a crappy shot with my camera phone, but you get the idea. i wouldn't leave it jacked up there all day, but i see no problem with getting it up high enough to slip your stands in and then pulling it. i would suggest using something soft between your jack and this point. i use a knee puck from my motorcycle suit. a piece of wood would probably work fine too.

I've got an S - thanks for the pic, Dog. I'm gonna get under there today and see exactly what that area is as it's a bit hard to tell in your photo but thanks for posting it nonetheless.
Nice floors, btw
