cool project and seems to be well executed, but i don't' get it...

i know the 997TT cabs are not out yet, but for what that cost to do that conversion, why not just get 996TTS cab instead? besides the fact that it would be warrantied, i'm sure it would be infinitely more reliable than a conversion and much simpler to mod to get big HP.

3 reasons.

1. The 997TT cab is not out yet.

2. The 997TT has a paltry 480HP stock.

3. The 996TT cab is the "old body". The 2 owners who have done this wanted the "new body" but didnt at all care for the styling of 997tt (or its performance).

You have to understand that the guys who do stuff like this have some pretty serious vehicular firepower (zonda, slr, enzo)

Cars like this exist for the guy who wants to be "invisiible" sometimes, but STILL wants his 800HP (and cant tolerate getting rolled on by M5s hehe).

We all know how easy it is to get 500HP or even 600 from a 996tt. However, the 997TT VTGs are tapped out by 550 (with cams even). Sure 9ff's VTG upgrade can take you to 640-660HP, but then any more power and you need a new turbo AND internal work (rods, pistons, heads...etc)

So I would agree with you that if you want a 600HP cab the *easy* and less expensive route is a 996tt cab, but if you really want a LOT of POWER (e.g. 780HP) you'll wind up doing a LOT of internal work to the 997TT anyway - which is all wasted anyhow...

so you may as well start with something less.

Mind you, M96 is dropped into a dumpster and a 3.6L TT is the "donor". This engine then gets its displacement increased to 4.0L. A complete set of internal upgrades including proprietary Ti con rods, pistons, head work, cams, clutch, air-water intercooler and more comprise the massive upgrade.

Yes its a lot of work, but 9ff has been building these monster 4.0L turbo motors for some time now. The car is sold under the 9ff manufacturer label with a 2 yr, 24k mile warranty.

this project still seems bizarre. you essentially did an EVOMS GT800 996TT motor and threw it in a standard 997 if i understand you right.

i know the 997TT doesn't make a ton of HP stock with the VVT's, but I'm sure it won't be long before somebody rips them off there and puts a normal turbo on there with software/fuel delivery system to match.

you'd really have to hate the 996 and really love the 997 to make this worth your while, especially when it probably won't be long before the turbo cabs start coming out.

just for grins, what is the total cost of this conversion? I'm guessing at least $60K? am I warm?

it is very stealthy though. that is kind of cool.

This is a 9ff 4.0L 780HP motor and conversion...not an "EVO8000"

Its a lot more *complicated* than a simple swap. While the engine starts life as a Porsche 3.6TT, theres a lot of stuff thats changed. Check out the post above for some details...

I'll get a sound clip for you. However, if you go to 9ff's website you can watch another similar (but lesser..hehe) 650HP cab doing a 351kph run at Nardo. its on their homepage...check it!

www.9ff.com

A stock 415HO 3.6TT is $30k from Porsche....REAL HP costs money.

How much for a fully engineered, built and installed low volume 4.0L 780HP motor...?

The complete conversion is ~$120k...I know, I know - why do that when all you need is a "MO-V-FLOW, a flash and some stickers...?"

If you have to ask...

Why not just put some gt35r's or gt40r's on the stock 997S 3.8 ltr motor? why buy a 996TT motor and bore it out(assuming your bored it out)?

How are the intercoolers getting enough air flow? Ducting from the wheel wells?
