Short Shifter

Anyone running an aftermarket short shifter on their 997? If so, any words of wisdom?

Thanks,

Mike

I replaced the standard shifter with the short shifter a while ago.
There is no comparison. I really like it .
The advantage with the OEM shifter is that it comes completely assembled
and you just swap it out.
The B&M shifter is an exact replacement , but you only get the lever and then have to install it into the shifter box. That's why its only about 1/2 the cost .
B&M gives you all the instructions on how to do this( with pictures )
I used their instructions when I installed mine since you get nothing from
Porsche .

You can buy the "used" shifter assembly from someone who did the swap, then install the B&M lever into it and then sell yours to the next guy. That way, if you break something at least you don't lose use of your car wile getting a replacement .
( In order to install the new lever, you will need to BREAK the existing bushings and then install the new ones which come with the B&M )
But you can probably save $100 by doing it. It is not difficult .

Good luck

Got the OEM and I'm pretty happy with it. The throws and direct and nicely weighed. The best thing about going with the OEM is that it won't effect your warrenty.

I got a much better price than that from Brandywine Porsche, give them a call. Of course, that was when I still owned the S.

I went the B&M route ($199 special from bumperplugs). Install was fairly easy; took about an hour to do. Felt much more precise afterwards - was my chief complaint about driving the 997; throws were too long compared to the NSX (countersunk NSX-R **** + short shifter).

I also went the B&M route, awesome! Best bang for the buck so far. Super short throw with very positive feel. Installed mine in about 45min with simple garage tools.

Is the installation process the same for both the B&M and the OE?
