Sport Chrono....Worth the $ ?
I have only driven a 997 with sport chrono so I can't compare it to one that doesn't have it. For those who have driven both, is there a difference? To those that have it do you put it in sport everytime you start up the car? Seems to me if I had it I would just forget about turning it on...maybe that is just me.

I just got my car, but when I get into it, I click that sport button right away. The chrono itself will probably never get used... most people think it is a clock anyway... and i kind of wish it were.

I agree that it is an inexpensive option that i would get if i were ordering a car. However, i am looking at a used 2006 997S that doesn't have sport chrono and I am trying to decide if this should be a deal breaker or not. Besides looking cool or like a broken clock will I really notice any difference in the performance of the car on a daily driving basis?

Don't be mislead about the performance difference, it is verrrry noticeable at least in my car. I sometimes wonder why Porsche did not tune the 997 to permanently drive like this. Of all the B.S. options that I could care less about, this is one I would not order a car without IMO.

its also a lot more than just remapped throttle response. It is intergrated with the PSM (and PASM & PCM if you have them too) to allow for more aggressive driving without computer interference. So whether its needed or not really depends on how you drive and your needs. You can always chip the car and get the improved throttle response, its the other features that can't be replicated.
and yes, I turn mine on as I pull out of my garage. in the rare event that I forget I remember as soon as I accelerate once.

Just my opinion, but its the most overrated and useless option they offer. I see my PSM light trigger less than 1% of the time while driving, so extending the limits is of no value - and I don't want to pay for the feeling of fake extra power.

I have the sports chrono and PSE. Until I disconnected the hose for the PSE cutoff, I would press the Sport button 80-90% of the time (and then have to press the PASM off as it was too stiff for traffic driving). For the last several months, with the hose disconnected, I 'forgot' to press the sports button, and recently was in the 'mood' so I turned it on. I kept on over reving with up shifts but found down shifts easier. The pedal seemed almost too sensative, for a few days, which gives the illusion of the car driving faster. Its a nice option to have for variety. Plus with the sports chrono, I think you are able to self program some of the features in the car (such as daytime running lights, locking doors automatically, etc).
