High Flow CATS 100? 200? 300? cell
Im thinking of changing my cats and am having some trouble on which to get. Looking for some opinions.
I have the fabspeed headers and mufflers currently.
Ive heard that the 100 cells cause a CEL
A side note. I live in California (Tree Hugger State) so i need something that will get me past our friendly Highway Patrolers that have the smog sensors in their car or the occasional smog check.
Im looking to find which cat is going to be the most "user friendly",
NO CEL, performance gains without excessive noise or lose of drivability.
Thanks

Hi Nardo
Its Joe @ Fabspeed Motorsports. Here is the scoop on Porsche OEM stock catalytic converters and aftermarket racing sports catalytic converters and increases in noise/loudness.
1st thing is that Porsche uses 4 catalytic converters (2 on each exhaust bank) on all 996, 997 and GT3 cars. The catalytic converters are around 400cells per square inch (CPSI). The more cells per square inch is directly proportional to more restriction and backpressure in an exhaust system. In addition, catalytic converters are very small compact mufflers/noise attenuation devices.
2nd Removing any catalytic converters is going to make any car louder and more agressive in sound. Each and every manufacturer that offer sports racing catalytic converters for Porsche and other cars and in particular a 996/997 is going to use 2 sports race catalytic converters in lieu of 4. Therefore one less restrictive catalytic converter is going to be placed in each exhaust bank versus stock.
All the manufacturers have to have the same type design if the exhaust systems was designed ala carte if you will. Most Porsche & Ferrari enthusiasts want to be able to change one or all exhaust performance part so for exmaple Fabspeed Motorsports parts are exchangeable and compatible for the factory Porsche parts. Fabspeed uses 200cell German imported highflow racing cats for 996/997/GT3/993/964/911 3.0-3.2/944Turbo cars.
As far as user friendly all parts for any compnay should easily bolt-on and comply with emissions. In your avatar and car listing I noticed that you have a cabriolet. Just be caustious as race sports cats for any Porsche always without eception make the car louder. Since race cats are essentially straight pipes with sports race cats welded no manufacturer can say that their cats would be quiter or louder than any other brand.
Consider the sound level of your cabriolet right know. If you add sports race cats at this time you will perhaps have approximately 10% more sound. If you would like to be louder and have more power I have sports race cats on the shelf.
Happy Holidays

Think about this - what's the possible gain from using a 200 cell instead of a 300? I've got AWE 300 cell and am very happy with the package (headers and mufflers too). I know I won't have any emissions problems, no CEL, etc. In your post you say you are concerned about living in the green state, so why not either stick with oem (which you know is fine) or go with 300 cell? Maybe 200...
