JCS is infamous around these parts
I installed the OEM sport shifter in my 997 S a while ago.
The only thing that takes a little time is removing the center console and getting the shift lever out.

It took me about 45 minutes .

You do not get any installation instructions from Porsche .
I used the install instructions from B&M .
They are very good , complete with photos .
Just disregard the instructions dealing with the 986 ,996 model cars and replacing the factory shift lever with the B&M lever ( Probably more than half of the instructions )

All you need is a Torx T-20 screwdriver to remove the console .
One hint: there is one screw right in front of the shifter in the center of the console which is very difficult (impossible ?) to get to. I pushed the foam padding aside and drilled a 1/4 inch hole right above the screw thru the console so I could insert the screwdriver thru it ( use a magnetic screw driver or you'll drop the screw )

After removing all screws , gently lift the console part way out and unplug the wiring harness , then fully remove the console .

I suggest you also mark the bottom of the shift lever and the cables
( I used typing correction fluid ) before removing anything. That way, you have a good reference point when reconnecting the cables to the new shift box.
After completing installation, before re-installing the console, go thru all the gears to make sure they ALL shift smoothly .
There are many threads complaining about the Sport Shifter being "notchy" or "binding" . It's all just a matter of proper cable tensioning .
I even took the car for a test drive and then did some fine tuning before installing the console again ( Just re-connect the wiring harness before driving or you may get some air bag fault message etc.)

Good luck.

Just pop the cables on/off the tower, NO need to adjust the ends, that's what porsche does.
