Help with a new rattle
I just noticed a rattle coming from the rear deck area inside the car, my girlfriend sat in the rear torture chamber seats while I drove and she thinks it's coming from the psngr side, in the very back corner of the rear deck. I removed the carpeted panel that's just below the rear window and nothing is back there. The rattle sounds like something is dangling/hanging loosely hitting against something metallic. Very slight bumps will cause the rattle and harsh bumps don't really seem to affect it much more. What's just below the flat part of the carpeted rear deck? Anyone else have this rattle and or fix?
Thanks
Thanks

My 997 Cab has a rattle in the same exact area that you are describing and it has been there since delivery. I have an appointment next week to address this rattle as well as the mystery knock/rattle that seems to come from the front left top of the dash (as described in another post).

Apparently where the engine lid arms/hinges touch the underside of the engine lid when closed is what caused my squeak/rattle...the dealer applied felt tape to the areas making contact and the noise is gone.Open the engine lid and look carefully as you close it and you'll see the two areas where contact is being made. It's still hard for me to believe to this day that the noise was coming from there but it's gone and has been for months. Hope it works for you....let me know.

I have the same problem. It sounds like there are rocks that are hitting the wheel well and gets particularly bad in 1st and 2nd when starting the engine cold (i live in california so it's not really that 'cold'). I took the car into a dealer and one of the service guys said it may have to do with an o2 sensor and that is a problem he has seen before. around the same time shortly after, my check engine light came on, i took it in and they replaced the o2 sensor. after this, for 2 wks it was fine but then it came back. if anyone knows the answer to this pls let us know - it's the worst when you just spend 100k on a car and it rattles!!! BTW it's a 997s cabrio manual transmission. I almost wonder if its my bad shifting.

If you're having trouble locating the areas I described 3 posts above let me know and I'll take some pics of where they applied the felt tape etc...
