Hi Dr Jay,
Anesthesiologist here...age 44 (I think).
6 Speed on the 997, Tip on the Cayenne (of course).
I've always preferred a stick and I live and drive in Boston - one of the greater traffic capitals in the US.
I must say that I am enjoying driving the new Cayenne we got - that Tiptronic is a very smart auto tranny!
I would prefer a more interactive 'automatic' and hopefully the next generation (i.e. PDK) will accomodate this - I would consider a PDK style tranny simply because it could make my daily traffic nightmares more tolerable while giving the feel of a stick.

Gotta hand it to you on your prior Porsches and your obvious life-long love of p-cars. I'm certain that in another 20 years I'll still be on these forums and digging my Porsche!

my girlfriend is 21 her Cayman S is a Tip

after she ordered her Cayman her Dad really started to like Porsche and bought a few..

Her Dad (59)
Has a 997S 6 speed.
(on order 997TT 6speed)

Her Mom (60)
Has a 997 Tip

and if I was to ever be able to afford one it would be a 6 speed..

I have two trucks (one is a 5speed (awaiting LS1/T56 swap) and the other is an auto(daily)

I met my wife in 1977. I have not owned a manual transmission car since then, up to 2 months ago, for the various family reasons (she couldn't drive it in an emergency, our kids couldn't drive it, blah, blah). 30 years later, kids are grown, business had a good year, wife says I can have a toy, so what do I get - MANUAL, baby - like drjay2 said, it's a sexual thing. Feeling the car, controling the car, regardless of whether it can be done better by computer.....And not to gross you out, sex with wifey has never been better...

28 and 6 speed here. Was 27 when I bought my 997S and supercharged it. It's loaded up. Bilstein PSS9 coilovers and everything I can do to get more power. Threw this stuff in here, cause I wonder what truth there is to the 'younger guys do the mods, while the older, wiser men don't' thing.

Thinking about getting a Turbo. Just wondering how mine compares to it. I should have more power. If I do, it'll be a manual too.

I wonder if your Porsche is a manual or tip and what age group most of this forum represents.
Seems like the majority of new turbos are tips. not sure about the 997s. My guess is manual.
