FWIW, the other cars I considered were the M5, V8 Vantage, and 996TT. I finally narrowed it down to the 911 and Vantage, and I decided it when my friend from Motor Trend gave me the "real scoop" of the 911 vs. Vantage. Needless to say, I am very happy with my choice.

when shopping for my car, i considered many cars: NSX, Z06, Cayman S, RS4, M5, 996tt, 996 GT3
it boiled down to 996tt, 996 GT3 and 997S (m5 was out b/c those morons ruined an m car again by making dsc permanent on the stick )
the tt was too soft for me, i didnt like the fact that you didnt have to work for the speed, there was power everywhere and i hate 4wd cars.
the gt3 was too low/stiff for my everyday 50mi commute to school.
if i wanted a drag car, i wouldve got a z06.
i got the 997S b/c its got enough power for everyday driving, it handles great, its light, rwd, and the suspension can be "switched" at a push of a button.

I wouldn't be the least suprised to find there are many on this forum who are over extended but still driving new 997's. Many of those very same people wouldn't hesitate to drive a 997TT if they could some how manage it. Don't kid yourselves.
