PCA DE at Lime Rock 3/29

There's still room for the Hudson Valley PCA DE at Lime Rock on 3/29. If you are a PCA member and interested in attending, take a look and contact Lou the registrar...

There's a shortage of instructors (Red), which means more Solo (White and Black) students would be very easy to handle. Right now 20 in White and only 11 in Black.

Hi njcl55,

You probably need to check with the chapter and individual track.

Here's the rule for Schattenbaum PCA:
ROLL BARS: All open cars (e.g. cabriolets) MUST have adequate rollbars, whether running with the top on or off. Cabriolets with pop-up roll bar are acceptable (Note: Some tracks may require manual deployment of the pop-up bar). Boxsters, Targas and 914s are acceptable without add-on rollbars.
Sunroofs must be closed while on the track.

I'm going to Summit Point, WV 4/6-4/7. Are you interested?

This from the PCA HV link:

ROLL BARS: All open cars must have visible roll bars (Boxsters, soft tops and open race cars). Must pass broomstick rule. Targas / 914s are acceptable. No saratoga tops.

I ran Shennandoah in One Lap a few years ago - did not like it (reminded a bunch of us of a kart track), but I hear the other courses are very nice. Too far for me to travel - I stick with Lime Rock and Watkins Glen, and will go back to NHIS soon (was a stop on One Lap).

There are 3 tracks at Summit Point. The 4/6-4/7 is at the big track, 2+ miles. It's a great track. Shenandoah is a lot smaller and has too many turns. I haven't never tried it. Look too dangerous for me.

I liked Lime rock, but it's a bit small and the track traffic could a problem.

Shenandoah was "crazy". Tight, short and twisty and then you have that one straight under the bridge and into the carosel. I got the M5 "airborn" cresting the hill and had to wait for it to settle to hammer the brakes - just in time to turn in to the carosel. We lost a Subi that day into the tire wall - didn't settle in time, and launched about 8' into the air using the carosel as a jump. The tires stopped him.

Lime Rock is a very difficult track based on my limited experience with others (probably been on 8 or 9). Nothing "makes sense" there and every lap is a different trip. What explains that is there was no engineering when it was built - the land owner and his friends went out in a bulldozer and just started moving dirt. Get yourself a copy of "Lime Rock Park - The Secret Valley of Racing" on DVD - it's a great documentary that every DE enthusiast should see.

I haven't been back to LimeRock for a few years, so I don't remember much about it. Went to Watkins Glen last year for the 1st time. Great track as well, beautiful countryside.

RonCT,
I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport Cup this season. What tire pressure do you use on the track?
Thanks.

I'll let you know once I run my 1st event on them Tire Rack has a good "care and feeding" for the PCS and I found their advice very good for my M3.

Lime Rock is a very technical track in a gorgeous setting. Some very interesting elevation changes make it a lotta fun.

NJC, unless the rules have changed drastically, which I doubt; you would need an approved roll bar to run. The broomstick rule applies to a boxster type that has fixed "roll bars". The helmet must be completely under the bars.

IMHO you'd be nuts to venture out in a cab without a bar. See the CVR or Hudson Valley web site for details.

normally i would agree, but the 997 cab has roll over bars that deploy, should the yaw inrease to dangerous levels.

i gave up my dedicated track car, when i moved to NYC, so i'm stuck with just one car now, which looks like it may be useless for trackevents.

i think i may have to start hunting for a hardtop!
