997s Poor Reliability?

Got this months consumer reports today and I was flipping through it and they gave the 997s a poor predicted reliability (black dot), the worst possible rating.

But everything i've heard, and read on these forums (at least on the 996's) says the exact opposite. That they are very very reliable and well built cars. So i thought i would ask the owners themselves, because who else is going to have the real insight into the question but you guys?

So do you agree with consumer reports rating of the car, or is it overblown and incorrect? I look forward to hearing your feedback guys!

I've only had mine for about a month. Can not say its perfect, as the airbag light has come on a couple of times with no reason to do so. I've not had the time to get her checked out yet. Other than that, no problems at my end.

knock on wood mine has been reliable. I read another article while back saying Porsche had the second fewest defects per 100 cars.

And here Consumer Reports praises the 911:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/AUTOS/08/30/cr_supercars/

I'd get second, third, fourth opinions if they are going to be this contradictory.

Like the JD Powers surveys they carve them up into all sorts of categories - I'd be interested as to what once CR is using - first 90 days? first year? sports cars? etc.....

Yea, they said they love the car and praise everything about it, but can't reccommend it due to reliabilty factors.

i've only had mine a week, but just today i noticed a little qwerk. you know how the window rolls down like an inch when you open the door, and then seals shut when you close the door? twice today, after closing the door, the window did not roll up to close the seal. i had to open the door and close it again, then the window would roll up all the way.

this happen to anyone else?

My Model Year 2006 Carrera S purchased in October 2005 has had 0 problems. Its perfect so far. I go in for the 20,000 mile/2 year oil change/maintenance soon. If there's anything wrong, I'll post it.

I've read of a few engine replacements for the 996 versions (RMS etc etc). Any members here have their 997 engine replaced or had any engine problems?

My friend blew his engine by mis-shifting into too low a gear while freeway racing. Porsche replaced the engine despite the fact that it was HIS mistake. This was for a 2006 997s as well.

I've had mine since September and the only issue I have are my window switches. The "one touch" feature never seems to work correctly.

Only problem is replaced battery cable and battery under warranty. Other than that is is more reliable than my 996's.

Aloha
