Denison install instructions?

Hi,

I saw this thread: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=75250 and a few other posts where people commented on doing self-install on their Denison icelink.

I've just recently picked up my new 997TT and I'm trying to figure out how best to install it.

I plan on doing the navigation install path, and have installed changers/V1 hardwires in in several of my previous cars, but as this is my first Porsche, I'm a little confused on how you're even opening the trim panel that hides the navigation computer -- I see no screws, and it doesnt look like it's designed to just be pulled off... Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Also, I saw this posted to the "Denison Isues" thread:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/130/4...0a725cc6_o.jpg

I tapped into the spare CD changer cable since I don't have one..

Red/Green = 12v
Brown = Ground
White/Red = ?
I assume everyone tapped power the same way?

What's involved if you do NOT want to do a trunk install.

Definately not doing the glove-box install. I don't want to take this much of the car apart

Just trying to figure out what the proper way to remove that navigation trim panel is...

Which trim panel? in trunk or around PCM in car? To pull out the nav unit in trunk, (if you can't just unplug the FIO connector) you need the key's. About $7 from dealer (ripoff)

The trunk trim panel ... I managed to remove it by using some leverage underneith the panel to push it upwards which released it.

Now I'm looking at exactly what's in this picure:
http://www.grabmor.com/videos/pic3.JPG

And trying to figure out the right way to unplug the fiber cables. I work with fiber at my company all the time, but this is a connector I've never seen before (In telco it's all FC/LC/ST/SC connectors...)

Humm! I have a C2S, this looks like a C4..... Humm! If you can see the connector it should unplug, fairly easily, if you have enough room!
You have the kit that can slip fiber into the connector easily, without using other provided connectors, according to pic.
Sorry, I can't see connector in Pic. Should be behind ? Electrical.
Or did you mean unpluging fiber from the released connector? Already unplugged!!
pull blue plug from connector this should free cable, instructions should show this!
got to catch a plane, try to ck in later!!

I installed mine in the trunk (997 C2 Cab)....I removed the panel from around the NAV to make it easier....5 phillips screws and three hex screws INSDE the panel on the right side. The power connector for the CD changer (I have no changer) is under the carpet in the upper left side (look at the photo posted inthe link above) The fiber conector in the NAV has a clip in the left...just move it to unlck and pull it out, however, be mindful of the fiber when disconnecting from the plug...t's much stiffer than fiber used in IT

Yep, plastic instead of glass in the fiber optic cables.
Got the install finished yesterday and went out for a long drive -- I'm actually surprised at how well the system actually works.

Dension Install 997C2S - with Nav and CD Changer

I connected my Dension in my 997 and cannot get it to work. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I used the Porsche Connection Kit. I pulled the CD Changer and unplugged the CD Changer fiber. I plugged one of the Dension fiber cables on that CD Changer fiber - the female one.

I plugged the other Dension fiber cable - the male one - into CD Changer.

I plugged the 2 "female" ends of the Dension cables into the Dension box.

I plugged the other 2 "male" ends of the Dension cables (after removing the protective purple caps) into each other and used a clip to secure them.

For power, I spliced the Dension power cable Black onto the CD Changer brown and the Dension power cable Red onto the CD Changer Red/Green - I didn't touch the Red/White on the CD Changer.

I pluggged the power back into the CD Changer and the Dension unit.

I plugged in the iPod and the Aux units into the Dension unit.

I turned the key, and nada - "CD Changer: No CD" was the response. Could not access an iPod menu.

I flipped the toggle switch to no effect.

I reviewed the iPod and it is up to date.

The iPod was pulling up the Dension screen - it said 1.00

From other members on this board, the 911 install seemed somewhat simple, so I thought I could attempt it. I have the following questions:

1) Am I wiring this wrong? If so how?

2) Am I wiring right? If so, then what could be giong wrong - is there some other configuration I have to do?

3) Do I leave the CD Player in the Loop - or do I take it out?

Thanks in Advance....

Try connecting your iPod to the dension. If it's getting power, it will show the dension logo on the ipod screen. If not, then perhaps the power is not working.

Otherwise, try removing the cd changer from the loop entirely. Also, you have to turn the car off, close all doors and the trunk, and arm the security system, and wait about 10 minutes before the system will recognize the dension the first time.

From the directions you posted it seems that you have everything connected correctly. I would suggest the same thing .. disconnect the CD changer and see if that does anything. Or try taking the fiber loop from the NAV unit.

Since your IPOD says Dension 1.00 .. then the power install is correct.
