I got my Rennline's on Friday and I got the clutch (plastic) and accelerator on no problem - but the brake is metal and I can't seem to get a good enough pressure on it to start the drill and keep it from travelling!!!!

I saw using a hole punch to get it started, but I tried and the brake pedal doesn't want to dent....

Any installation suggestions would be appreciated (yes, the bit was sharp).....

Didn't get the dead rest though.....

Use a center punch to give you a good start point and then a new drill bit. You'll get through the metal but you'll need to apply a good deal pressure to start the drill bit cutting into the metal. You also might want to start off w/ a smaller drill bit to get a 'head start'. Smaller bits will go through the metal easier.

Good Luck!

Is this one good enough to strike the aluminum pedal structure?

http://www.amazon.com/General-Tools-.../dp/B00004T7RJ

I tried an awl and hammer, but not enough purchase to get it going - will try the smaller bit first as well - great suggestion.

I'm travelling for a couple of days, so will try it later this week.

Thanks again!!

An awl & hammer should do it. A center punch is simply a sping loaded awl. If you do buy one make sure it works on hardened metals as opposed to wood. You might want to put a short piece of 2X4 behind the pedal & floor board to keep it from moving while you trying to set the drill point and drilling as well. I think I did that when I drilled my pedals and it really help provide solid surface.

Once again good luck!

Thanks to those who have come before me on 6Speed, and well, those who are just plain smarter, I drilled the brake pedal this weekend (after snapping 3 bits - last time I buy the "on special" bit collection from Home Depot).

Here's the results - I went with the Rennlines because of the heel/toe extensions in red which matches up with my Red Dials and Belts - they also come in black and aluminum:

I didn't get the Dead Plate - thought it would be one step beyond for my car.

Thanks again to all the advice and guidance.....

HA! Its always a race on 6Speed! Got to the Depot and get the real bits - I started with a small one, but had to really lean on it to get it to pinch - the 2x4 behind the pedal arm is critical for leverage.

Be careful - the brake pedal size doesn't leave a whole lotta room for error in placement....

Looking forward to yours - did you go red as well?

Does anyone offer other color pedals?

I think guards red painted pedals would look real sweet on my car. Im thinking about just getting the cheapest set, and trying to paint it gloss red. Will the paint fade?
