Talking Video: BMW M5 E39 Supersprint vs Porsche 997 Carrera S Powerkit

So we had a race from 100 km/h to around 240 km/h. M5 V8 2003 is tuned with 30 HP thanks to headers and racecats.

Filmed from Porsche Carrera 2 S 911 (997) with factory Powerkit = 381 HP. Manual gearbox as well.

I didn't think the porsche would pull .. M5 has the definite power advantage, its at least 100hp over the x51 (after mods). And even if you factor the ~300kg difference.. its still 6cylinders to 10cylinders.

I think you need to redo the math... IT's an E39.

Did ne1 check under the M5 hood for a sc'er? (semi kidding). Something is not right here. Not on the top end like that. And for political correctness, "I disapprove"

Yes, it was my car. Modifications are headers and cats, nothing more.

The only thing that was off ios that the 997 did not rev to 7200 rpm but only 7000 it seemed like.

M5 is a very fast car at speed and my car have a top speed over 296 km/h where the rev limiter cuts off. So it can go faster, just as the 997S with Powerkit that does over 300 km/h.

What troubles me is that, as I recall, the e39M was a 13.2 sec/106 mph machine While most 997s tests had times of 12.8/112, w the x51 a tick quicker yet. The difference in mph is significant. The mods you mention are not earthshattering as anyone who has played w headers and exhaust knows. Having just finished watching all 9 seasons of the "X Files" I am prepared to pat you on the back. I do wonder, though Gustav. No flames here, however.

We did the rolling start as usuel but this time from 100 km/h in third gear. I beleive the Carrera have a nadvantage in start thanks to the tial engine.

ANd no, they dont run any season of Xfiles anymore, right

everything knows it, and im gonna say it. its a little fishy to say the least. e39 m5s are low 13 secodn cars with the best trap ive seen of 108 mph. the 997S easily traps 112+. i think the main thing was that there were two passengers in the 997S. those maybe 200 lbs can make a difference. also, if the guy in the 997S wasnt driving the car to its full potential, then the results should be what we saw, but given equal drivers, the 997S will def take an e39 m5. ive seen the 997S take a new m5 in 400 hp mode and also at 500 hp mode.
